It is pretty damn big ....shopping cart |
Wing is NASTY
Anything that tall has to be compensating for something. Other than that - kool cars... |
I wish i had a 7, but other wise sweet colloection.
|
what a fabulous way to ruin an otherwise stunning FD....sigh :p
|
Wing Is Nasty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
your 8 is very nice
sorry i feel the same as everyone on that rx7 wing |
That wing is Idiotic Looking! Ruins the car!
|
wth is up with that gigantic wing........... anyways the 8 looks great!
|
i like the 8 and the 7's color and how everything's put togehter. but the wing i have to admit it looks like crap. looks worse than domestics. but my guess is that it has a purpose for performance...but then again the engine is pretty much stock. bah oh well
2 rotaries..WHO CARES!!??? |
i wish my old karate class had that wing..would have been great to chop it! HiiiYah!
|
Yeah who cares. Nice cars but not mine to play with.
|
The wing does work at 80+mph.
Car feels planted at speeds. I did have the stands custom CNC milled and miscalculated the height by 2"~. I'll correct that at a later date after I do a few runs at Laguna Seca. I think I'll shave a couple inches off the width (right now it's at 71"). The car is setup to make a little over 400RWHP at 15psi. I took the car to the weigh station and got 2750lbs wet. I ran the car with stock tires at 18 psi and had tire spin at 80MPH in 3rd gear on the turn. Hence the reasoning for the wing. Looks like a few people have been fooled by the "stock" look of the engine. Apparently, there are many on this board that don't know what to look for in mods. That's the intent of my powder coated wrinkle black for that stock look "officer" ;) Here is list of what I have: HKS SS BOV K&N intake replacement Greddy SMIC Efini Y-Pipe Ceramic coated UIM/LIM, intake and intercooler pipes Intake pipes Ported UIM Upgraded secondary injectors tp 1300cc Power FC ECU with Commander DP MP CB Strut bar Koni adj shocks Ground Control coil overs Addco sway bars 17x9 all around SSR GT1 rims A032r 255ft and 275 rr tires with a UTA of 60 etc...... |
|
I hope that those pictures arent justification for the height of your wing off the deck. Otherwise, very nice FD :)
P.S since you seem to be into racing, do you have the L/D ratio and/or Coefficient of lift values for that wing, I would be interested in that. I have never bought a wing so I dont know if that info comes with it thanks Scott |
i have a few friends that work at NASA and Lockheed.
My father flew F-104s. They told me that the functionality would be greater if the inverted wing is in the "jet stream." I need to clear the roofline. Looks like i miscalculated an ince or 2. |
Nice cars. Someone should tell the bat that no matter how big his wings are, bats can't fly once they're on the ground... :)
|
the wing has given me a few chuckles.
ONe time a cop was going to give me a fix it ticket and he didn't see the wing and slammed his shoulder in it and yelped. Tears were rolling down my eyes. |
I respect your car and your hp numbers
but that wing is still HUGE to say the least and what does a ferrari and maserati have to do with it? |
hey batman I've seen your car at almaden mazda two months ago I recognize the wing was that you?
|
yes that was......
|
Hmm..i still don't like the wing, but i LOVE the two cars irrespective!
|
Oh... so that was you with the black 8 with MS front at the Great Mall meet. I think you left early though. Those are nice pics! Wish I did the same with the Red RX-7 at my work today :D
|
You guys are too harsh on wings. Those wings are actually functional. Why would they bother putting them on GT cars anyway? Big ass stereo equipment are more ricey though. They prove no use to perfomance and make the car heavier than it is. I guess that's why they never pack GT cars with big ass stereos. Seriously, almost all new cars nowadays come with stereo equipment when you buy them
...FWD gave the wings a bad name IMO. |
Batman, how did you determine what the wing ht should be?
|
just need something to clear the roofline.
|
i love the cars, i really liked the look of the 7....until i saw that wing :-/

Love the SSR's on the FD :).
|
OMG I SWEAR THATS THE FUNNIEST THING IVE EVERSEEN THE WING ON THE 7 LOOKS LIKE A BENCH
but you have an awesome 8 mine will look the same black ms kit |
yea... thought it was a really good photochop at first but i guess i was wrong.. thats sad...
i guess you saccrifice a lot for performance, but thats a lil extreme IMO |
Hey Batman,
Were you in Los Altos last week? I recall being on San Antonio when a similar (or the same) jet black FD with a really high wing turned onto the street from Foothill... We were going in opposite directions so I didn't really get a closer look. -P23 |
yep, that was me.
u in the blue, silver or red RX8? i have seen a few around that time. |

...FWD gave the wings a bad name IMO. But then again some of those wings on the back of the ricers look like they are trying to lighten the rear of the car by picking it up at high speeds. Before the 8 I had always drove front wheel drive something my Dad insisted was best. I notice a huge difference in cornering with RWD nice unless the road is wet or icy. Thank God for the DCS at least for those that have fun in rain and snow. The black paint looks beautiful. What do you use for paint protectant? One of the reasons I didn't get black is because swirls and dust show more prevalently. I have a Sunlight Silver 8 and sometimes wash it 2-3 times a week (bugs...). If it is used as a street car it does scream pull me over though. Poor police officer, um sir should I call for backup? You're bleeding on my car, ick. |

...FWD gave the wings a bad name IMO. FWD didn't give wings a bad name. Wings are also useful on FWD cars. HUGE wings like that gave wings a bad name when people put them on POS cars that couldn't backup the looks. Even though he may say that wing is useful, I still think its horrid and completly makes that 7 look nasty. It's too big. Im sure you can find a smaller wing to do the same job with the right tuning. |
PLEASE tell thats a photoshop PLEASE!
|
unfortunately, we'd all be laughing at that wing as he flys by and little bits of tire tread dance off our hoods :p
