4th Gen Photochop
I'm not sure if this is appropriate for the RX8 forum, but I did use the 8 as the basis for this pic ;)
Tell me what you guys think... I chopped of the rear door, made the wheel base about 8 inches shorter, made the front air dam bigger, made the exhaust about an inch bigger, and shorted the roof about 15%. I'd hit it :D http://homepage.mac.com/daedel/.Publ...esignsmall.jpg If anyone wants the bigger pic (2X the size) or the original RX-8 pic PM me. |
Wow that looks FANTASTIC.
The true proportions of the RX-8 design come out in 2-door form. The car looks darn good right now, but because of the extension needed between the wheels, the side profile can sometimes look a little odd. Shortening it up a bit makes everything fit together perfectly. I pray every night for for there to be another RX-7. I really really do hope it comes. |
I did a little Photoshop job of what I'd love to see....
(Note: I am a HUGE rookie on the PS front.....) |
WOW !! good job!
looks like a S2000 !! |
Top work!!!
Can I suggest that you drop the Coupe' about and inch? just to make it sit lower on the road= menancing! http://ilovedeniro.homestead.com/files/aussie.gif |
nice work!! :D
all you need now is make it a hatchback and change the side view mirror like the FD3S... and in silver collor... i love silver.. ;) |
ooooh Mama, that car is unbelievably gorgeous!!
At first I was thinking the RX-8 design may not work out for the RX-7, maybe not me raw enough, but jeez, if they did what you did here, which didnt seem that ridiculous, it would be gorgeous!! I'd take it over a 350z :D |

DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLL!!!!!!!!!!!
AMAZING ....... I WANT! sorry for the caps :P |
Nice work.
|
Man, that silver one is sweet!! Nice job!!
|
Actually not as much of a fan of the hatchback as I am of the conventional trunk. I think the hatch makes the rear end look kind of portly. The flat trunk gives it a sleekness.
Plus look at that blind spot!! Also an interesting suggestion I saw on the RX7 forum is to put the doorhandles where they are on the 3rd gen, clean up those sides. :p *Thinking of putting RX-8 order on hold* :o |
Here's an update of the progress I made. I have to study for Calculus so no more fun until noon :p:
I made most of the changes you guys wanted (some from the RX-7 Club). I made the rear overhang shorter, lengthened the trunk line to go all the way back to the front of the rear glass (turning it into a hatch), moved the door handle (this will probably change), turned the lights into pop ups, and made the tires about 10% bigger to fill in the gap. I have a PSD file of all of the changes I made in layers if anyone wants that. http://homepage.mac.com/daedel/.Publ...sign2small.jpg |
Here's my attempt, I too, don't really like hatch-backs, but I think it would look good with a small trunk-lid type area (just a flattened part of the hatch) I also tweaked the windows a bit to lessen the blind spot. There is still enough space for some good structure in there though. Also tweaked the taillights and the rear bumper a bit, to reproportion with the new shorter wheelbase. Hell, I wouldn't be embarrased driving the thing, that's for sure! Keep in mind, this is really my first photochop...

dang man, you beat me to most of my changes.. sniff sniff...
|
Damn, those are the best 2-door RX-8 photochops yet.
Anyway, 2 suggestions: - I think there needs to be more room between the back of the door and the rear wheel, maybe make the door a little shorter? - The rear hatch glass needs to be shorter and lower (there are no rear passengers in this car), it looks too much like an MX-3 now |
well, I shortened mine a little in the back, but the problem is, if you go too short, you lose all visibility out the back window. The rear glass should be at least as high as the drivers eyes, if not a little higher.
|
Try redoing yours with the rear end shorted like I did in my second pic. I want to see if that's more satisfactory.

I've never liked popup headlights. From an engineering standpoint they dont make sense. Why spend a lot of time making the car aerodynamic and then add 2 wind resistive loads on the front of the car. Also, looking at it mechanically, you dont want to add more moving parts than you need. I personally have seen countless cars with one headlight stuck in the up position
What do you do if one of them sticks and you blow a fuse for the motor that controls them? Go without light? Just my opinion ~Jim |
actually, I think most of those pop-up lights are vacuum operated, so one little leak, or crud built up in them, makes them not work. They are usually easy to fix, just noone goes through the trouble i think to find the leak/blockage.
Unfortunately, I accidentaly closed PS before I saved the full quality one, so all I have is the WEB optomized GIF. damn... sorry man... I didn't do much over what you had, biggest change was the window shapes, to minimize the blind spot. Just distort the rear window's bottom corner forward, and the front window back a bit. I wouldn't bring the front window to far back though, it doens't look right if it's parallel with the door frame, that is one of the styling concepts behind this car, none of the lines are parallel. That is what makes the car look like its moving, even when parked at the curb. :) |
How about this one? I've changed the doors to a more traditional 3rd Gen RX-7 style and added the X-car wheels, to give the 1st Gen retro look.
|
WOW! those are some really nice PS RX-8's. Kinda a cross between an S2000 front and Viper rear. Very sweet!

With an engine with 3 moving parts, why add some other mechanical do-dad to mess up? |
How about this one, I wanted to see just how much room there would be in the new RX-7.. hehe...
