It seems like I missed the second part of your question here... I made the lights myself. In those pictures I believe I only had 3 LEDs per side as a 'feel out the brightness' sort of deal. Now each side consists of two rows of 6 red LEDs. Not super bright leds, but enough to draw very little current (40mA) and still provide a noticeable, but subtle red glow. Cost was $0

 

lol from these pics, i just notice that our buttons on the steering wheel lights up. lol after 4 and half years of owning my 8 i never noticed lol. thanks for the share tc.
