:) Looks great! You got a regular production line going there! But where are the pics showing the mounting of the light itself from behind? Did you use the case from that brake light or .... or ... need more pics

Looks good for a home grown mod...................nice job.
I still like the rx8strakes "stealth" one better, but it appears to be dis-continued.......anybody know why? Glad I got mine before they stopped. I like this one because you don't really see any red at all during the day(even though the pic implies that). Then when the lights are on you get the three in the corners, and the brake lights up the middle portion. Maybe you can further modify yours if you like this idea? I think if you could perfect it, you could sell a bunch. http://www.rx8strakes.com/index.asp?...PROD&ProdID=31 I don't have a pic of one with the brakes applied, but here's one with the lights on during the day. |
Nice DIY! A bunch of questions. What is the black gooey adhsive? Seems to make a bit of a mess, no? Why not use molding tape? How do you change the bulb? What happened the other third brake light? I f that is not in use I would think it would fail inspection, no?

Wicked! :squint:

The black gooey stuff is marine silicone. it is messy, but once cleaned up it dries black and is not visible. We needed something that you could pack into corners or imperfections from cutting as the taillight we purchased does not match the curvature of the rotary emblem exactly. We tried heating the brake cover... bad idea. :)
So on the whole not bad. Mine was the prototype for this project so I used an LED in my light. to change it I will have to remove the lens... I was not thinking... the other two we did with a little bit more forethought and the 194 harness is accesible form the back of the "box" for the rotary accent symbol if changing is needed. We did not disable or alter any of the existing brake lights... so I am not sure how to answer your question. Mazurfer - we all decided that we wanted this as a running light rather than a brake light or a combo. your idea would be cool, but it would get more complicated to wire and install as a "home grown" kit. |
maybe a DIY for one day!
|
looks awesome!
|
As ModestoRx8 said, we all wanted just an running light instead of having an brake light. Because we already have the third light in the middle of our truck when applying the brakes, i thought it wouldn't look as good when it just turned ON with the brakes applied. We wanted to keep it very simple and clean.

im the sexy one in the black.

Nice Mod, but where am I to put my single exhaust when I get one?
That's the whole I was going to use. |
you think its big enough for a exhaust pipe?
|
Absolutely beautiful... jealous!

This is a link to the wiring DIY and some links to how others have done this. |
wait. this is or is not turned on by application of the brakes?
|
It's comes on with the running lights, not the brake lights.

If anyone has seen the trailer hitch brake lights on a truck can attest to this. When the brakes are applied a person's attention is focused down at the light. I personally did not want to cause a distraction when I wired mine and I also wanted it to show as much as possible so I attached it to the parking lights. A person could easily add in a second LED and wire it to the brake wire that comes on when the brakes are applied. ;) Nice write-up guys. Dremels are a Godsend but we should know that since they are also called rotary tools. :D: |
I vote DIY for this one if it hasn't already been done.
Looks awesome! Great job guys! |
