I understand the point of the comparison but blah blah blahlbbblah.
The manual transmission driveshaft is carbon fiber.

ZING!

Damnit, noticed gundarx's post before mine!

Oh well, good read. The R8 has been known to be a balanced drivers car.

.. a most rewarding car to drive thru the corners.. a most unrewarding car to drive down the straight. Guess that about sums it up.

Not sure about "drive down the straight". Maybe "race down the straight". I do alot of long distance driving in my 8, and love it. Wouldn't have any other car for those long highway miles.

Corners and curves are funner of course, but anything softer would leave me in pain, falling asleep, and/or scared for my life. Anything harsher and I would be going in for bone replacement surgery...

Even spent plenty of nights in my 8, only slightly less comfy than my bed.

We agree here. I just don't like the article because I think it is pointless. "The RX-8 Stands All?" get the **** out of here. The RX-8 is a great car as I said before, and I liked the article until it compared the Mazda to an R8. My old 1990 Toyota Celica had supercar steering response as well but I'm not gonna compare it to an RX-8 because it was a piece of ****. I don't understand why everyone is up my *** about my opinion. I just don't like the article, deal with it.

different stokes for different folks.
i have owned about 37 different cars in my life. Muscles, Lotus, vettes, bmw's etc.
I have never driven a car that drives like the rx8. It is so damn smooth--even at the limit and during recovery.
this chassis and its brakes are capable of so much WHILE maintaining dd/practicality.
My fellow club members total put THOUSANDS of track miles on this car and no wheel bearing failures, nothing cracks, the diff remains solid. heck not even a rattle develops. The engine is tougher than a lot think and is capable of making respectable power.
The car also is not heavy and very very safe (did yall know that the roof is composed of a very special blend of metals--including titanium?). Matter of fact the federal safety commission acknowledged that the RX8 is the most LEAST likely car in the US to roll over.
Plus it is the ONLY car IN THE WORLD running this engine.
How much more special do people want?
Now I added FI to mine and I messed with the gearing a little and I get 25 mpg on the road and the non zr1/z06 vettes etc mostly wave me by on the track.
Best damn car I have ever owned.

When OD says wave.... he means the Vette guys wave as he passes them in the corners.

Happens to me all the time at the track.

This was one of my favorites, really tried to capture the essence of the handling and quite surprising that it beat out the 2-seaters, the s2k and 350z in handling and overall:

1. to examine (two or more objects, ideas, people, etc.) in order to note similarities and differences: to compare two pieces of cloth; to compare the governments of two nations.

As seen in the above list, you can compare any 2 items you want. Hell, I can compare my 8 with the slab of wood making up my desk, or compare my 8 to the level of coolness that can be found in the glitter of metals trapped in the ice of neptune. Comparing is nothing more than noting the similarities and differences between 2 objects/people/places/etc...

The R8 is far closer of a comparison than stuff people try on these very boards. Don't get all worked up over it, it isn't worth it.

Different is different. Different is not automatically better. Different is not automatically worse.

Yeah. It was superior to the 8 in horsepower, firepower, passenger capacity, trunk space, gas mileage, cruise range, and cabin features.

The 8 only beat it in top speed, price, weight and dive depth.

LOL wow who the hell did that type of comparision... jesus.

The 8 also beat the submarine in the ability to move freely on land. But looses when it goes into the water

I did...actually

It was in response to like 3 "RX-8 vs ..." threads posted in the same day.

And who int he hell measures a car's ability to move freely in land vs water?

I was sticking to points that are reasonable to measure both subjects on. Granted, dive depth is a bit near the edge, but in the end the RX-8 can reach deeper depths than the submarine, due to size and air capacity, so it was worth noting.

It was also fun to finally get to rate firepower. What warm blooded male doesn't want to rate their vehicle's firepower after all

You have proven my point. Just because you can compare two things to each other doesn't mean you should. Just like you didn't have to be an *** by attempting to insult my intelligence by Googling a definition of the word 'compare' for example.

There isn't a purpose to comparing an RX-8 to a submarine or a supercar, because we all know that the RX-8 isn't like either of these things. Lets just call it a damn good sports car and leave it at that.

I have understood your point from the beginning. I don't entirely agree with it, but I understand it. It is a VALID point, but it is a point that is not based in fact. It is a point based in opinion, which means that it can be just as valid as another opinion.

My point was that you shouldn't get so worked up over it.

after watching yesterday's rolex grand am race several feet away from the track, i'd just like to mention that the mazda rx-8 cars finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place.. besting the best of porsche, the bmw m6, corvettes, camaros, and challenging prototype race cars in most parts of the track!!.. after the race ended, we drove out the parking lot with fellow rx8s and rx7s and people were literally bowing down as we passed

^ hell ya!!!! ...poor porche (Porsche) GT3s just can't handle ... maybe they need to find something more their speed.... like an R8 to play with

In the GT class, Jonathan Bomarito and Sylvain Tremblay led a top-four sweep by Mazda, giving the No. 70 RX-8 its first win since the season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona. John Edwards and Adam Christodoulou finished second in the No. 68 RX-8, with Edwards 0.170 second behind Bomarito at the checkered flag.

Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato finished third in the No. 69 RX-8 to give SpeedSource a sweep of the GT podium. Segal and Assentato lead Tremblay by eight points in the GT championship (262-254).

James Gue and Leh Keen finished fourth in the No. 41 RX-8, while Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand took fifth in the No. 94 Turner Motorsport BMW M6.

Andy Lally entered the race nine points out of the GT lead, but joined R. J. Valentine in finishing ninth in the No. 66 Porsche 911 GT3. Lally is third in the championship, 17 points behind the leaders, after winning his last three starts for TRG. John Potter and Craig Stanton had the highest-finishing Porsche, taking sixth in the No. 44 911 GT3, while Robin Liddell and Andrew Davis led the General Motors contingent with a seventh-place finish in the No. 57 Chevrolet Camaro.
