Top 10 Drift Cars

Some of their choices seem a bit odd but the RX-8 and Miata both made the list.

Matt: "Funky rear-wheel-drive coupe with that high-revving Wankel rotary engine that sounds simply amazing when drifted."

Supernaut6 09-29-2011 12:39 PM

Dumbest list ever

Atilla 09-29-2011 12:45 PM

Definitely not the best list of car for drift imo but seriously...

how did a Jag make that list?

Supernaut6 09-29-2011 02:17 PM

I know man!

Rx8vsMalibu 09-29-2011 02:18 PM

No idea. The guys who made the picks are the Falken team drivers so I'm sure they know a little something about drifting. Nonetheless, it's an odd list.

wrightcomputing 09-29-2011 02:24 PM

I think I would rather drift a 370z or a G34 Skyline GTS then the Jaguar but hey at least the Rx8 made the list.

monchie 09-30-2011 12:24 AM

Not sure about a few of them...but at least the rx8 made it on the list.

alliswell 09-30-2011 05:32 PM

Seriously? A Jag sedan is on the list but not the GTO/Vauxall/Holden?

I completely agree with you. Huge oversight.

I can't figure out why I have such an affinity for the Vauxhall Monaro... so strange.

Considering the GTO was in the drift circuit it's not so strange.

If you watch Top Gear, they obsess about the ease of drifting the Jaguar. Clarkson loves on it in its initial test drive. Later in the show, when they compete against Australia, I'm pretty sure a Jaguar is one of the cars he chooses to drive.

Ya, my post was dripping with sarcasm. :D:

The GTO/Monaro makes a wonderful drift car. It doesn't handle all that well, but throwing it into a drift, it's very easy to control with light steering inputs and modulating the throttle.

WhiteDealershipRice 10-03-2011 09:04 AM

The GTO was Pontiac's Mustang 5.0/Camaro Z28

The sledgehammer approach to a sportcar.
That 6.0 beast of an engine can break the rear tires loose at will, but makes the car as nose heavy as the Ayatollah.

That being said, Holden Monaros do VERY well in teh Australian touring car circuit, so they CAN be made to handle. (I'd love to see some of teh Holden parts make it to the states, the Holden bumpers are WAAY more attractive than the Pontiac "signature grilles" & some suspension tuning would turn the "Goat" into a true track star.

I like the list... it is not just "the usual suspects" it has something interesting to think about.
Other cars that could have made the list:
Nissan 350/370Z/Infinity G35/37 (same car-different trim)
Honda S2000 (watch that snap oversteer!)
Toyota MR-2 (Same as above!!!)
Porshe 911 & Cayman (Triple the above sentiment)
Police Interceptor (CrownVic, Would be Kick ass to see one clapped out in black/white, sliding sideways while running the bluberies & siren!! )
Dodge Magnum & CHarger (Police or not)
Volvo 240 Wagon (Old School!)
Toyota Tacoma X-Runner (Yes, a pickup that actually handles)
Toyota Supra
Nissan 300ZX
Mitsubishi 3000GT SL (The VR4 was AWD)

Those are the cars I'd considerable "memorable" to drift

Aren't s2ks terrible for drifting?

WhiteDealershipRice 10-03-2011 09:00 PM

S2K's break loose on tehir own. So initiating teh slide is easy, but they are a beast to control once sliding

at least the 1st gen as set from teh factory.
the 2nd gen, with their staggered wheel setup, was tamed significantly (too much)

So yes, the RX-8 drifts easier than the S2K of both generations, still, top down, sideways, revving a I4 to 9Krpm sounds pretty sweet
