I'm so happy I was able to get this car!!!

That's pretty funny, considering that it gets one of the worst gas mileage of any car in its class. :)
But I do agree! I don't think I've ever had to take my car in for repair work! And I do all the routine maintenance myself~

I think if you calculate the costs of maintenance and insurance and gas all together...with whatever extra.. excluding mods..

which is what I believe Edmunds does...

then what you lose in gas.. you gain in other areas... pretty sweet if u ask me

So I do'nt worry too much about gas... it's worth every penny for the amount of pleasure it gives..

they obviously didn't factor in those addicted to modding their car :p

Edmund's accuracy on depreciation has proven to be wrong so far, which is a key factor in the true cost to own. They said this about the 04 model, and that was way off. They said the STI was highest in depreciation, and it's holding it's value better then the RX8. It's like they are trying to predict the future, on a car lacking enough history to be accurately measured. I think for cars that have been out a long time with a long history, Edmunds has the ability to be pretty accurate. In this case, they were taking an educated guess, in which is totally wrong so far.

With that said, buying a pure base model RX8 makes for the best value, and is pretty good in overall in cost to own. Once you start adding, GT package, ect ect, you throw that all out the window, because most of that extra money in upgraded models gets wiped out very rapidly. :)

When I picked up my RX8 about 20 months ago, insurance savings had a lot to do with it -- it was far less than all the other candidates on my list. I'd say that is more of a major factor in cost comparison for cars in this segment and similar "sporty" segments than one might initially guess.

As far as other cost factors go, I've never bought cars for the resale value -- they've always ended up passing to other family members... and as for gas costs, IIRC the long term testing has shown similar averages for other cars in the category, especially for G35SC, which was and is a major marketplace competitor (probably THE competitor for the RX8). I doubt that the RX8 really gets relative gas mileage that much less than other offerings. I'm one of those drivers who shrugs at gas mileage, anyway -- especially for a car like this (BTW, I avg ~16-18 city, and ~24 highway -- no complaints).

At any rate, my RX8 has been nothing but high thrills, low costs, and no worries.

Yes,its cost ratio is indeed the better buy,but, I did soak some $$$ into some aftermarket mods that certainly blew that cost savings all to hell.. ;)

US Made Cars were well represented....NOT

All I know is my father's 2002 400hp Z28 with a 5.7L v8 has never had a major expense and gets close to 30mpg on the highway... and I don't...

Ive had a mercury cougar for 6 years and 77,000 miles all i ever changed is the struts. Cars been great to me. No problems with the 8 either :D
