On dragtimes, if the car isnt stock, the people usually put any mods done to the car. as you can see here http://www.dragtimes.com/Mazda-RX-8-Timeslip-4201.html, the people at pettit racing (owners of the particular 8) didnt have any mods.

RotaryManiac 05-09-2005 03:28 PM

BTW. Polak ran a 1/4 in 14.58 and he said he could have shifted better. The weather was 90 degrees, he had extra gas in the tank, and about 50 pounds of extra gear in his car. with the correct amount of gas, correct shifting, and colder weather he could definitely get close to 14.1.

Here is the thread https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/14-58-%40-94-55mph-37357/

^ Polak wrote he thought could get 14.3-14.4... that's a far cry from "close to 14.1".

^^ People at dragtimes.com often fill in their mods or write "stock", while the petit racing folks did not specify one way or the other. They are the only RX-8 with a 14.1 listed that I found. Your claim that multiple stock RX-8s did the 1/4 in 14.1 at dragtimes.com appears to be unsubstantiated.

g35 is unrefined, the interior stinks its cheap and badly designed, my friend lives with one every day and hates it, good thing he's leasing it. its definately not a performance car like the s2k, rx8, or z are its just a luxury performance car that has a cheap sticker price

mikeb 05-12-2005 02:55 AM

I dont know
I really like the g35
but it is so common

StealthFox 05-12-2005 04:30 PM

yeah thats another thing too its really common(i understand many of you couldn't care less, but i'd rather be a little different and have a car generally accepted as "cooler" for the same price)

crosswound 05-12-2005 06:17 PM

the g35's are very nice car i think.

There are others on dragtimes.com that have 14.2 and 14.3. Addittionally, interior trim packages affect times. while it may only be a 20 pound decrease between trims, thats a bit off of the 1/4 time.

StealthFox 05-12-2005 10:00 PM

yeah rotary maniac you bring up a good point 20 pounds is a lot in a car, also, do drag racers go on diets to get better times?

No they hire horse jockeys :p

20lbs might make a .005 second difference ;)

TeamRX8 05-12-2005 10:21 PM

the R&T test in April/03 had the Grand Touring option, or at least they had it listed in the configuration data:

only if the driver is good enough to take advantage of it, for 20# most aren't

StealthFox 05-12-2005 11:54 PM

im kidding man, lighten up did you think i was serious about saying that the .005 second advantage mazman stated would give you an advantage?

TeamRX8 05-13-2005 01:53 AM

what was I suppose to think with the way you italicized "difference" and no smiley?

or is the term "lighten up" suppose to be another hidden joke :p

I GOTCHA AGAIN BUDDY! :D :D :D

...in all seriousness is there actually people who factor in .005 of a second in tuning their drag car?

If you think it only makes a .005 difference, then why did car and driver correct its times from 0-60 in 6.1 to 0-60 in 5.9 and eventually 5.7. They test drove different trim levels, and the stripped down models had the fastest times. :) (thats the on i have)

(i dont remember if it was car and driver or road and track that corrected their numbers to 5.7)

StealthFox 05-16-2005 09:54 PM

5.7 ugh, so the cars stock get between 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and 7.2 seconds, geezus. so now whenever anyone asks how fast the car is i say"..well, im not sure if its fast or not because its been tested at 5.7-7.2"

bureau13 05-18-2005 07:58 AM

Well, duh, you say "mid 5s". I thought everyone knew that! :D

cretinx 05-18-2005 09:25 AM

also different cars have different flashes

weight does make a difference, especially on acceleration and braking, but frankly, I don't mind losing a bit of speed because the moment any human steps into my car, sits in my red on black leather seats, and gawks as the nav pops out of the center console, I get about a billion comments like "WOW YOUR CAR IS AWESOME", or, as one girl aptly put it "if you were single I would fuck you right now" ;)

I did notice a drop in gas mileage/acceleration/braking when I put my 285s on the rear - even though the rim I used was lighter than the stock rim, all that rubber makes a difference - of course, my handling is insane and straight-line traction, even with a turbo, is undefeatable.

yeah once i get my lightweight low compression rotors, mild street port, 3mm apex seals, 20psi boost, mp, catback, headers intake and ECU tuning i can say mid 4's

right now i'll just guess high 6's cuz my 8 is a newer one that has a conservative/leaner flash from the factory most likely :(

RotaryManiac 05-18-2005 07:28 PM

I have the "N" flash and my car feels faster than ever. Why would yours be slower?

StealthFox 05-18-2005 07:31 PM

hmm, i thought the earlier 04's had the best one because the newer cars dyno around 170-175whp compard to the older ones dynoing 180-185whp.

nevermind, i havent really looked into flashes and such, dont mind me.

jahfari 05-18-2005 10:19 PM

man, i took my car to moroso last week and couldn't get under a 15.6. but, my reaction times were about 6/10 (i know i'm slow), but my shifting was pretty good through the 1/4 mile and i can't see how my car could can gain a whole second from anything that i could improve in driving. or can it?

btw, these were my three times at the track, haven't done it before.
