Revolution -- Mazda Superbowl ad
http://www.youtube.com/user/mazdausa/featured
(please keep in mind if one reaches this URL in the future, the Revolution ad may not be there...) A little 60 second ad cramming the history of Mazda. Some salient points: 1. A one-second fly-through a rotary engine of some sort. Start just behind the gearbox and end just short of the rear rotor. The rotors were spinning at a pretty good clip. Wonder what shaft speed was. 2. A one-second shot of a Cosmo 110 going down a banked corner at a fairly good clip. 3. A few shots of the almighty 787B in motion. 4. And lots of skyactive, since that's what they're selling now. I did like the overall tone and music. Lots of shots of people with silly grins on their faces. Lots of reminding the viewer that mazda doesn't build appliances masquerading as cars. I only wish they'd lean just a little more on Rotary, seeing as they say it's at the core of who Mazda is. It would've been nice to see a progression of rotary cars starting with the Cosmo 110 and ending with a teaser shot of something to come (if they have anything on the board..) They did have a few frames of the Shinari on the road. And if it's a repost.. oh well. I didn't see this listed on the front page ;) |
Interesting how they still feature the rotary engine but don't actually sell a vehicle with one now that the RX-8 has been discontinued. Hope this is an indication it is still in the works in a serious way and not merely a skunks work type endeavour.

Without YouTube, life would be boring. lol

For now... dum dum dum.. :shocking: |
Never mind, I was able to pause and catch it on my computer easier then on my tablet.
What was the sports car they show the front end of at around 12 seconds? |
^ Furai, their concept rotary supercar

That looks oddly similar to the internal rotary fly-through seen in the original The Fast and the Furious.
Ray The one in the Mazda ad has 'em doing the wobble. Wouldn't be correct without it (And how is it that nearly 10 years on, we don't have a rotor doing its spirograph dance for a smiley:p:?!) |

I'll have to re-watch that, but I think they got it wrong in the film -- the rotors weren't doing their off-center dance, they were spinning like a jet's compressor fans, I think.
