Recall nightmare:

Went by the to look at the stock of RX8's. None at the lot. Asked the sales guy about it.

Immediate response " the recall fiasco, worst that I have ever seen". He had sold a car last week, and the owner brought it back the next day with a bad tailight.

Service impounded the car for the exhaust, and refused to return it to the customer. No parts were there for the fix, and none were shipped.
The customer had just paid over 30K and had the car one day. All of the new cars were taken off of the lot and hid in the backlot. Some dealers had 21 cars in the back! When these cars are released back to the lots, they will be very anxious to get rid of them.

Some tend to blow things out of proportion. Just read some of the posts in the recall threads. Some are simply impatient and that makes things seem more chaotic than they really are. The "fiasco" he talked about was probably of their own making. From what I know of a dealer here in Orlando is that all is going smooth so far. I'm sure with any recall of this size things may be a little confusing and fast paced at first but once they start doing more of the inspections and repairs, things will smooth out and go much quicker. It's just going to take a little time.

I took delivery of my new rx8 built in 04/05 on tuesday (7-26). Recall service was performed as per the engine sticker. I agree (and sympathize) that people are just anxious to get their car once they pull the trigger.

no nightmare at all...just people whose lives are seriously boring and need to blow things out of proportion to feel important

the heat recall is so minor...most of it is common sense...the other is just where you live

the control arm is a limited problem...the fix is easy and problems don't arise, that is if they do until 10s of thousands of miles

yea you can pretty much say that dealer is full of shit

Aseras 07-30-2005 01:07 PM

they cannot make you leave the car.

Yes it sure stinks when you buy a new car and there are recalls and TBS's to deal with. I like to put it in perspective based upon my personal experiences. Been there big time. On July 27 I traded a 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE (got 22K for it) for an 2005, RX-8 built in November 2004. After buying the RX-8 I hit the internet and yup there's the "recall" to put the pad in over the gas tank ( I guess that is where it is suppposed to go), covering my group 1 car. There is one TBS on the Rx-8 I could find. Oh yeah, I got a sticker on the driver's door jam already and if I can read the handwriting I think this was fixed. Why did I trade the Toyota? Well first of all daughter #1 has my Subaru now so that leaves me usually, on some weekends, with two not three kids in the car. Of course the Sienna was not the poster child for a well made car - recall replace the gas tank, TBS reprogram the transmission ( dam thing never worked right ever totally unsafe nothing like hesitation from a poorly working transmission and an even worse fly by wire throttle) "foam the middle row captain chairs cause they rattle like heck, TBS repair work on the rear lift gate, check the radiator as they are prone to having a problem, power steering hose (as I recall), rust on the bottom of the doors, HORN WILL NOT WORK OR WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO, (yes that pissed me off), wanna see a car with a record number of TBS might be the Sienna. Oh yea I rate it as unsafe to drive torque steer at 50 mph on wet pavement even with stability control. Totally unsafe in the snow. Steering so mushy you have to glue your eyes to the raod and your hands to the wheel. Finally, some idiot gave this car real real dark tinted glass. Great I guess for hot sunny days - can't see a darn thing out the rear windows at night .

2005 RX-8 GT 6 speed, in arrest me red, now I remember what it is like to drive again and enjoy the driving- eureka! I'd be surpised if there are ever more than 2-4 TBS's on the 2005. Lets hope so. Good luck to us all. Charlie

It sounds like you are happy with the car and welcome to the site.

Sadly...they should have never sold you the car with the group 1's still under a recall status.

If you haven't done so already get this issue addressed.

rotocruiser 07-30-2005 11:48 PM

Thanks I will check it out in detail Monday when the dealer is open. The blue and white sticker on the door jam states "Authorized Modifiction" Campaign No. N3K5 788 zf" (difficult to read all this) "Dealer Code 50704" and "Date 5/27/05" . No stickers I could find in the engine bay. Evidently this might not be what I thought it was since under recall the engine and engine cooling manufaturer campaign numer is 3305G. I incorrectly assumed that a TBS causes a "campaingn," that there was only one TBS and thus only one campaign to date and that if I had one campaign sticker the TBS was taken care of. Looks like I am wrong. Charlie

clydejmuggs 07-30-2005 11:58 PM

Modern Mazda did the campaign on 05/05.

Stickers do not tell the entire story.

Get the pad installed per the recall and enjoy your car.

silverx8 08-02-2005 01:43 AM

Recall is not a big deal, I was surprised by how strong the response was. I will wait to complain about my bumper screws, so that my car doesn't get put away.

It was a stock one day old car impounded because the recall forbids dealers releasing brand new Group 1 cars that haven't undergone the recall repair process. Federal penalties apply to a dealer that delivers a car before the the recall repair has been completed. The dealer stuffed up.

clydejmuggs 08-02-2005 07:59 PM

Is there a reason this thread is...where it is?
