Is it just me or did I see the the exact same post above in another thread awhile back?

It could be just me, but as a rotary fan, my mind would be a lot more at ease if mazda engineers or anyone else at mazda would just kind of let people know where they are at with the rotary once in awhile. Is the 13 B maxed out of standard power and at the same time meeting emissions requirements? Can they do no more with this engine?...and with this 16x, what are they looking for with that or working towards?

I don't know if this was mentioned, but the new model has something that is particularly useful and need on this car, if only for your average rx-8 driver who isn't too aware of completely proper rotary care:
"- New variable red zone system. The tachometer red zone moves in three stages according to the engine temperature. This prevents over-revving immediately after startup when the engine is cold."

I should also mention that there are new water and oil pumps. Could have seen that coming...

^ I believe the current ECU does control over-rev in cold startups. Just that our gauges do not have the fancy vari-light show.

you are correct, the variable rev limiter mechanism has been there since the beginning, it's just now they decided to show it in pretty lights :mdrmed:

My friend said the same thing. Hopefully they don't choose to put in the catalog!

Why didn't they take this opportunity add one or two additional gauges to the cluster, like voltmeter, etc. It looks even more empty now that everything is so electroluminescent.

It does make sense that they would do reliability improvements prior to FI. Oil cooling, more air, it all points in that direction.
