Mazda Sales Figures October 2006

MAZDA’S CX-7 CONTINUES STRONG SALES CLIMB IN OCTOBER

IRVINE, Calif.– Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced that it sold 4,272 CX-7 Crossover SUVs in October, nearly offsetting the sharp decline of its most popular model, the MAZDA 3 , due to lack of availability. MNAO’s overall sales fell 652 units to 18,843, a drop of 3.4 percent month over month. Year-to-date sales are 228,082, an increase of three percent over the first 10 months of 2005.

“Two factors negatively affected our overall sales picture this month, our lack of MAZDA3’s and our planned reduction in fleet sales,” said Jim O’Sullivan, MNAO president and CEO. “However, our overall retail sales are up year over year and we nearly beat last October’s sales, thanks to another dramatic monthly increase in CX-7 sales, which are being driven by strong media praise and consumer enthusiasm.”

MNAO’s Canadian and Mexican operations both showed strong sales in October. Mazda Canada, Inc. (MCI), had a record October, selling 5,978 units, an increase of eight percent. MCI is up four percent year to date on sales of 71,160 units. Mazda Motor de Mexico, which opened for business last October, sold 804 Mazda’s this October with just 10 dealerships.

Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Mazda North American Operations oversees sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda sales in the United States, Canada and Mexico through nearly 900 dealers. MCI is located in Ontario, Canada, and Mazda Motor de Mexico is in Mexico City.

Mazda sold 640 RX-8s for October in North America (US/Can/Mex). 776 in September. 8180 for the entire year thus far. Unless something amazing happens, the 8 will probably end up with around 9500 for the year.

Looks like MNAO bought it back from October 05, then sold it again. Either that, or there's a typo in the table and this vehicle belongs in October 05.

I think it's a typo. Come on Mazda/Ford--get your tables right.

shaunv74 11-02-2006 12:40 PM

That's what I figured too.

Razz1 11-02-2006 01:23 PM

Car is getting rarer every month.

I went to a Mazda only dealer and they had all the 8's in the back.

What's up with that? No 8's in the front lot for Mazda only dealership.

How do you expect to sell them?

...one might think Vipers & Z06'es generate a wee bit more revenue & margin per unit, no?

Hard to say really. The Viper and Z06 exist in large part to boost brand image and may not be all that profitable. On the otherhand the Z06 often sells for over MSRP and I doubt it is a whole lot more expensive to make than the regular C6. I have a feeling Chrysler might actually lose money on the Viper.

Well logic (not even very much of it!) would say that since they don't make that car anymore, it probably wouldn't sell well! I suppose I should "flip out" because Mazda hasn't sold any RX-7's this year too! Cry me a river, it's all over! Actually it's statements like this one below that bug me because every year someone keeps saying it because they have no clue what sales numbers mean to Mazda. How many years have we heard this same thing now? It should have had a 2 year life span according to sales number predictions by people on this forum. As I've stated many times before, year after year, eventually someone will be correct with this prediction but no one is going to come to this conclusion based on what some sales number told them.

Also I think they said in Car and Driver, that the Rx-8 would get redesigned in 2009...

You seriously need to work on getting a sense of humour. Maybe there is a class or something you can take...

saturn 11-02-2006 10:11 PM

I guess we're only allowed to talk about falling sales numbers when it's about Ford or Mitsubishi and not precious Mazda.

I think it's a stretch to try and say the 8 won't be around after this year because of these numbers, but to completely ignore them isn't very smart. Perhaps they can be used as a bargaining chip during negotiations or to help someone figure out when the best time to buy is. If nothing else it's interesting to see how Mazda is doing overall.

Just because it doesn't affect your car in your driveway doesn't mean it's not useful or interesting to the rest of us.

Tirminyl 11-02-2006 10:23 PM

Same discussion every month. I await November sales and the pending demise of all of Mazda's line-up.

Sapphonica 11-02-2006 11:53 PM

...& all the competition keeps getting even faster & more fuel efficient.

RIP '08, ya heard it here first.

ALMOST8IT 11-03-2006 12:17 AM

RIP RX8 only if the car is no longer profitable. I have no idea if the car makes money for Mazda as a low volume car. If it does, then the car should be in production for a while longer because no Ford affiliated company can afford to drop a profitable car.

DOMINION 11-03-2006 12:54 AM

I think they will keep her for some time longer then do the MS-8 and call it quits like they did all the others :)
I wish and hope

JeRKy 8 Owner 11-03-2006 01:32 AM

You know what is sad (but great for me)? I have been seeing a CX-7 almost every day on my work commute for the past two weeks (in different colors with different drivers). Days can go by where I won't encounter another RX-8 though.

The CX-7 has been out for mere months and it is quickly becoming more common on the road than the 8, at least down here. :hahano:
