Mazda & SAE J1349

I am a person of few words, thefore:

1. Forgive me if this has been posted before, I will gladly delete the post.
Edit: DAMN, I just noticed this thread covers the same release: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-media-news-11/mazda-announces-2006-rx-8-details-80022/
2. Read the following blog entry: http://autoblog.com/2006/01/05/mazda...rx-8-for-2006/ and see if your eyes catch the same thing that caught mine.
3. Comment....

"""" the same 232-hp version of the RENESIS rotary engine. Both horsepower ratings were calculated using the new SAE J1349 rating process, so they are the real deal."""""

This quote???

Yep, that very same quote. I am assuming that the '232hp' may or may not be a typo...I don't really care, I've been happy with the 8 since I bought it. Actually, I am just curious as to the implications of the power output rating being done under SAE's newest recommendations -which seem to have worked both ways, if you look at Honda / Acura & Chevrolet as 2 opposing scenarios.

Where does that leave the whole argument about the Renesis making such or that power? I am still trying to figure out where did the information come from, as there are no links to an official Mazda press release or anything. I just want to validate the fact that they are finally using SAE's recommendation, and that they will display SAE in their power ratings.

If you read through the post you refer to, you'll see the new re-rating of 232 hp is the major topic. Sorry, perhaps you should delete this thread before the repost police start to flame you ;)

If you don't believe the SAE's new rating standard what do you believe? Do you understand how they achieve these figures?

BOOSTD 7 01-07-2006 11:52 PM

When guys are running 14.5 in the 1/4 mile, 232 is NOT overshooting it.

Ryan, I don't think we should be getting into that...you know an ET is no 'direct' indication of power output.

oh, so you actually have a 2006 and have tested it already?

the point being, the new test only applies to the 2006 models, not earlier models, it will be interestng to see how the 2006 dynos out in comparison

Very true. It's interesting for us to speculate what the factual numbers were on the previous years but those aren't nor weren't being scrutinized under the new standards.

It could test out the same or worse, but at this point nobody here is likely in a position to say for sure
