Mazda (and RX-8) clean up at Car of the Year awards!
The Automotive Journalists Association of Canada has announced the category winners in its annual Canadian Car of the Year awards (the overall Car of the Year will be selected from the category winners and announced in February). Link to the article on Canadian Driver
Winners are: Best New Sports Coupe or Sedan (under $35,000): Mazda3 Sport Best New Economy Car: Mazda3 sedan Best New Family Vehicle: Mazda6 Best New Sports/Performance Vehicle: Mazda RX-8 The second-rate ;) non-Mazda winners are: Best New MPV/Crossover Vehicle: Infiniti FX45 Best New Sports Coupe (over $35,000): Infiniti G35 Coupe Best New Luxury Car: BMW 5 Series Best New Minivan: Toyota Sienna Best New Sport Utility Vehicle: Subaru Forester 2.5 XT Best New Pick-up: Ford F-150 Congrats, Mazda! "Perhaps it's just that Mazda happened to have one sensational new car that qualified for two categories, a second (Mazda6) that lucked in to being eligible this year, and a third (RX-8) that perhaps was an upset.
It isn't unprecedented, but it is very rare for one company to do so well." Personally, a few years back, I had Mazda down for the count. Old Ford and 90's jap technology, who cares performance, and invisible marketing. Shows to go, they were (finally) busy back at the lab making up for lost time, in the performance, features, and "Whowie-Zoowie Look-at-that!" departments. Congrats Mazda!! :D |
