- I AGREE!

They are extending the entire POWERTRAIN warantee for an ENGINE issue?
What else do they know about that might be about to break now?

10k miles/1 year extension is very poor considering it took them three years to discover this issue!

No, it sounds about right. They couldn't have done it earlier because they had to wait for me to have a turbo installed before announcing it.

My broken-in Renesis performs much better than when I bought it with 14k miles. It now has 27k. I'm not an aberration, either.

Same here.... I would be shocked if my motor showed a problem on this recall testing procedure. My 2004 is now at 28k and is stronger than ever. What I find funny is that I drive it like I stole it constantly... my RPM's are rarely below 4k even at cruising, and I 'beep' it several times a day. I may only get 15mpg, but I always have a smile on my face, and apparently my 'carbon cleaning' has been working

Now if I can just get them to replace my bald tires under warranty : )

What about those of us who paid big money for a Mazda Total care extended warranty. I'll have to make some calls tomorrrow.

haha good luck man, if its under 3/32 u dont have a chance!

i recently drove a brand new rx8 and i must say they run worse than a broken in one. the engine the brakes, etc its very noticeable. i only got 9k and mine feels worlds better. but a fresh start is always welcome.

in my opinion, if they offered to replace it for free every year or so id jump at the chance.

THAT'S customer service/white glove treatment.
Like me, you have obviously assumed the wrong type of white glove. See https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=519 .

I guess I'm going to get a new engine because I have severe powerloss in hot weather - 40 mph at full throttle at 110 degrees when I visited Las Vegas.

Question: what kind of loaners does Mazda offer? Do I get another RX-8, whatever they happen to have in their lot, or do they reimburse you for a rental car?

9 times out of 10 you just get whatever Enterprise rental has available. Usually something cheap like a Neon or Corolla. Occassionally dealers will have thier own fleet of loaners but they're often not even Mazda, just trade-ins they picked up on the cheap that are better pressed into service than sold.

Unhappy extended warranty

Pardon my ignorance but what if I spent $$ on extending my warranty to 60,000 miles? Will I be reimbursed due to the fact that Mazda is now giving away this upgrade for free?

No, because the warranty covers a multitude of other things aside from the engine. It would be no different if you motor failed right at the end of your factory warranty and was replaced by Mazda. Yeah, the chances that you'll need your engine replaced under the extended warranty just went down because it was just done, but it could still happen and the warranty company is still maintaining that potential liability along with all the other potential problems that they're still covering.

If you really feel that you won't be needing your extended warranty anymore you are free to cancel it yourself. You will get a pro-rated refund. Be aware though, extended warranties start from the time of purchase not at the end of the factory warranty. So if you've got 50,000 miles on your car and a 60,000 mile extended warranty, even though you really just started your extended warranty, if you cancel it you will only get 1/6th of the premium refunded to you. It'd be a tiny sum compared to the risk you'd be taking at that point.

Also, they are concerned about previously flooded vehicles. As you know, excessive amounts of fuel can melt down a cat quickly. It was first thought that running the engine slightly rich would accually "cool" the cat. Not so. The reflash also leans the fuel mixture some. This will prevent spark plug fouling on start up and cat preservation.

not to mention MPG!

A guy commenting on AutoBlog suggested that once the seals fail, oil could be sneaking by and clogging the cat. He also suggested that certain synth oils might not be burning off completely (or as much as other oils) and that oil is clogging the cat. Seemed well reasoned to me but I'm no expert.

I was all set for my engine warranty to expire next year so I could look into FI.

Guess I might have to wait another year...

For one, I'm happy Mazda decided to extend the warranty by 10k and 1year. Certainly made me more comfortable keeping the car..

(so... how long is this thread now?)

Not long enough.

I say the thread stays open until Mazda steps up to the plate and offers a 100,000 mile warranty on the Renesis.

If I want a colo-rectal exam, I'll go to my doctor.

Why do all of them have the same code "4206F"? I would think they would have different codes like 4206F, 4206G, etc
