Mazda at Detroit 2010?

Does anybody know what mazda's plans are for the detroit auto show this year? Per their website they are attending, and they have usually used this show to unveil plenty of concepts in the past.

Well for sure they will be pimping the great Mazda2 that debuted in LA in Dec.

I was thinking the same thing.. Pretty sad. Another empty Mazda showing at a Motor show.

Le me guess, they will be showing the Mazda 2 or another wacky and worthless concept of something that you will never see.

I don't understand the market for the 2, isn't the 3 small enough?

Likely no more concepts. They're expensive and they piss Mazda diehards off that they're so stupid looking or they're not and then they don't do anything with them. Mazda's pettered out so after shooting its wad with the 2 intro all will be quiet... they've refreshed everything that sells except perhaps the Mazda 5 and no one cares about that anyway.

I Love my Mazda5! The wife gets accolades on it all the time. I just want the 16X more power and torque same mileage just like when we went from 12a to 13b....

no the mazda 3 is not small enough. how much does your speed 3 weight again? 3200lbs and you think that's small enough?. travel outside of north america and you'll realize what small cars can be.

my bad.. :o: didn't really mean to pick on the 5, and realistically, sales figures show it's the 8 that (not no one) but few care about, at least from a buying perspective lol. Googling I'm seeing the 5 outsell the 8 by like 500%-1000% or something like that? Not a bad uVan... just wish it had more power options and fewer seats giving more cargo space in the rear.

you'll loose......the mazda 2 diesel have a "rattly & asphitic" Ford PSA engine, gearbox and clutch are not so good....the gasoline Fit is much better....and mileage is also very good....

Been there done that so fine sell it outside north america, I can't see it selling well in NA the 3 is their flagship econocar. (Not MS3)

nate340 01-17-2010 01:16 PM

tonnes of cars sold in north america that are doing well which are smaller than the 3. the 2 will do well and you can admit to being wrong then.

I actually really like the styling of the 2 a lot more than the 3. So saying "isn't the 3 small enough" is kind of pointless. That almost sounds like the stereotypical american auto motto of "it'll be better if we make it bigger". I dont know if I would ever choose a [regular model] 2 for my only car, but I would pick it any day over the 3 if I ever decided to have a daily driver and separate car for fun. My girlfriend actually feels the same. She's not huge into cars and really doesn't care about performance a whole lot. She mostly only wants something with reliability and good mileage. That said, she likes the mazdaspeed3 but not the regular 3. She really loves the way the mazda 2 looks and she's really hoping to get that as her next car. So there definitely is a market for the 2 in the US.

if the gas mileage is good, and reliability is good, it will sell. Everyone swore the Fit would fail. Good Marketing, great price, no major issues (none I know of) and it works well.

You got me there, I was one of those who thought it would fail. I guess I just don't see the appeal in a small non performance car. I've never really cared about gas mileage so maybe that's it.

My wife is tired of her mazda5, and wants something smaller, lighter, and still a Mazda. She was basically pinning it on the 2010 3 until she saw the pictures of the 2. She says she hasn't made up her mind until she actually sees it and drives it (and I agree that's best), but I can tell, she has her heart already set on it.

Ima gonna see if I can get her to hold out for the MS2, and I think she would like an NA Miata more than she thinks she would (which I am working on getting as a auto-x / winter car), but either way, the 2 a good looking tiny car that fits what she needs.
