maybe a repost but uh: Arrival of 2012 Mazda RX-7 Could Spell End for RX-8
|
I want them to stop making the RX8.
|
well ill be getting it!
|
Oh dam. I think I know what I'm getting for my 21st birthday..lol
|
It sounds good to me....I want my 16X!!
|
Yes, a repost.
No one knows for sure except Mazda and they aren't telling. I'll believe it when I see it. Last we heard they can't get power or mpg out of the 16x. So, that would make for a lighter weight chassis with a Renesis (Ver 2) which wouldn't be too bad. |
All cars have a timeframe.
So will the RX8, regardless of what comes next. |

Weight also equals power. taking 20 to 30lbs from just the body and chas. would give a better Hp to weight ratio. But, another 20Hp at the crank would be nice too. I'm thinking we might see another 10hp out of the 16x. Aren't emissions a bitch |
with the 370Z... the up and coming FT86... and probably the new Supra... I don't see how the RX-7/9 is gonna stand except for us die hard rotary fans...
if Mazda wants to stand out in front of the Oriental Coupe bang for the buck sports car, I'd say they either make a supercar kickass 2 seater rotary (whcih i don't see how that's gonna happen) or bump the renesis a little and make a lighter and better 4 seater RX-8 |

i don't think 20-30lbs is gonna do anything anyways... if that's what ur saying... so an anorexic model driving is supposed to be much faster than a 200lbs dude driving the 8?

ahem... not power but improved power to weight ratio ;p

1) Calculate vehicle's current weight(x). 2) Subtract the amount of weight you’re removing. 3) Take this new number(a) and divide it by the horse power of the vehicle (y). The number you come up with (z) will be the amount of lbs. per horse power after the reduction. (Step 1) 4) Then divide 1 by the number of pounds (z) and multiply it by the weight before the reduction(x). This new number (b) will be the new simulated horsepower of the vehicle. (Step 2) 5) Take this number (b) and subtract the horsepower before weight reduction(y) from it. This will be the simulated gain(s/hp (g)). (Step 3) Step 1: a/y=z Step 2: (1/z)*x=b Step 3: b-y=g Weight to Hp accounts for a lot when it comes to power at the crank Also think about un-sprung weight to rotating mass |

i get your point pico... but all i'm saying is.... shedding 20-30 pounds off the chassis ain't gonna be a thing compared to what's coming out to compete with the new RX... it'd be best if the 7/8/9 was to take off at least 150 pounds like how the 370 did with the 350, beef the engine up a bit, put wider, lighter & better wheels/tires as OEM, make better gas mileage(LOL), and tada... and yes. emissions IS a bitch
370Z 3250/336 = 9.7 FT-86 2500/230 = 10.9 vs. 3065/232 = 13.2 (3065-30)/(232+20) = 12.0 || not enough... but again... cars that i'm comparing the new car to might have an entirely different customer base and different end usage. i guess we'll just have to see what's gonna happen in the coming 2 years :P maybe we can see a beefed up rotary in the MX-5 superlight chassis which will be... 2100/300 = 7.0 :D FABULOUS lol and btw i do know math well lol. i study to become a pilot/aerospace engineer ;) |
Math is our friend LOL. Good comparison
i agreed 20-30lbs isn't going to really show many gains Example: removing the passenger seat would equal a weight in that range In theory -- less weight= a higher power ratio. 150lbs shave would be ideal, but I think we all know that won't happen. Still I'm excited to see what Mazda has in stored for us! |
I've been saying this for some time, but let me say it again. Don't expect a new car with the same power output. It aint happening. It would have to put out at least 290-300hp to make business sense.

this makes me sad, I won't be able to get an 8 for at least another couple of years and by then they'll probably discontinue the 8. Hopefully i'll be able to get a used one in good condition.

if the rx8 weighed 2700lbs. i would be a happy man.
also, i thought i read somewhere that 2011 is the last year for the rx8 anyway. |
so they put all that money into making the series 2 rx8 for 3 years of production. Thats not a good business plan.

Most manufacturers do this. It's an example of promoting good business
If Mazda got the weight down to 2700 I think think that we all would be happy. Lets see what Mazda can do... What next after 2011? Death to the Rotary????-- I hope not *fingers crossed for news* |
