Jay Leno's take on the Miata and RX-8. This guy own every cool car that there is or ever was, so you'd say he'd know a thing or two about cars.

I would have to say that Leno's judgement of any car IS THE GOSPEL... read what he said about the Miata and RX-8,

I've got an RX-8, and it's the same thing. It's only 238 horsepower, but there's a lightness to the touch and to the feel of it. It is really, I think, one of the best. Both the RX-8 and the Miata are the best-balanced cars in the world. They just seem to fit exactly right. I think many experts will tell you, and I think this is something not many super car owners will admit, but I will admit, I think the Mazda's got the best gearbox of almost any car produced. It's extremely short, you never miss a gear. It's extremely predictable. Click click click. Click click click. And the fact that you use it a lot makes it enjoyable. You feel connected to the car.

I think the shifter comments were towards the miata. I don't think there has ever been a manual shifter as nice as the miata 5 spds. Its directly connected to the gearbox! Doesn't get much better then that.

Leno made a general comment that ALL of Mazda's gearboxes were tip top above all other manufacturers.

Jay Leno on the RX-8

In the current issue of Mazdasport magazine Jay Leno comments on his Miata and his RX-8. As to the RX-8 he says: "I've got an RX-8, and it's the same thing. It's only 238 horsepower, but there's such a lightness to the touch and to the feel of it. It is really, I think, one of the best. Both the RX-8 and the Miata are the best balanced cars in the world." He continues: "...I think the Mazda's got the best gearbox of almost any car produced."

There's more, but that's what he had to say about the RX-8. The article was mainly about the Miata he inherited from his brother, so the RX-8 comments were kind of an aside. Quite an indorsement from a guy who owns and drives some of the most exotic vehicles--both past and present--available today.

Jay Leno. Nice guy, saw him years ago in person. And yes his chin is bigger than Quagmire's.

It is thought that Leno's chin throws the RX-8's normally perfect weight distribution way out of kilter.

Rumor has it that the RX-8 goes from 0.91 to 0.84 on the skidpad with Leno behind the wheel.

Nothing against Leno, but in German there's a saying which would suit perfectly and it says: "Wer hat dem wird gegeben."
It translates as: "People give to them that already have."
