don't think I've seen it anywhere yet, thanks. Pretty stock article more or less, almost like they are pulling them off the AP but this quote was worthy of note:

"Some have lamented the relatively low peak torque figure - and it is true the lone rotary-powered sportster looks lame on paper next to its rivals - but RX-8's gearing, light weight, flat torque curve and its super-responsive, free-spinning nature compensate for any peak figure shortfall. And with 9000rpm available, the driver is rarely left wanting on the road."

Nice post Pete,

The link that mentions the next RX-7 is :

http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...256CB6007C3918

"Mazda's advanced concept design manager Noboru Katabuchi, who was given the job of RX-8 program manager following the popularity of his original show car, the RX-Evolv, at the Tokyo motor show in 1999, has also confirmed his preference for a larger version of the RX-8's Renesis rotary engine to power any future RX-7.

"Yes, a new RX-7 is heavily under development right now," Mr Katabuchi told GoAuto at the global RX-8 launch at Laguna Seca in California last week.

"Of course, it is not yet approved but a new RX-7 is definitely being developed." :D

"Bakaj says the RX-7 would be a fully fledged sports car and would be more expensive than the RX-8.

Mazda engineers are said to be working to ensure that the RX-7 body weighs close to or less than 1000 kilograms, in an effort to ensure nimble handling and potent performance. The next-generation RX-7 is expected to share its platform with the RX-8 and the all-new MX-5, which is due in a couple of years."

Before anyone goes bananas ofver that weight, note that they're talking about the body, not the entire car. Ain't no way a complete RX-7's going to weigh in under a tonne. Hell, that's almost 200lb lighter than the current Miata!

How many pounds is 1000 kilos?

Hercules 01-23-2003 12:10 PM

2210lbs.

sheylen 01-23-2003 12:28 PM

1320kg

I quote "the 1320kg RX-8 packs 184kW in manual form"

And that is 2904 lbs. :)

Not to nitpick but 1,320 kg = 2,910 lbs. ;)

They said they were driving the Euro Spec cars, so we are still guessing as to what the U.S. spec cars are going to weigh. Besides that, the option packages are going to determine weight of your particular configuration as well. Eh...I don't care anymore about the figures, I just want to drive it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
