Fiery Chicago crash kills Purdue student

i feel for whoever this was - bu ti really hope its not one of our forum members.

CHICAGO -- Three college students, including a person attending Purdue, were killed Wednesday when their car slammed into a steel barrier and caught fire on an underground street in the city's downtown.

The driver of the Mazda RX-8 lost control of the vehicle on Lower Wacker Drive around 12:50 a.m., according to Chicago police spokeswoman Kristina Schuler.
The names of the victims, two women and a man, had not been released pending notification of family.

The charred and crushed car was taken to the Cook County medical examiner's office with the bodies still inside. Autopsies were planned for Wednesday.

The students -- two from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and one from Purdue University in Indiana -- were on spring break, according to friends.

The Mazda was being followed by one or two cars of the students' friends and acquaintances, Capt. Joe Boisso said. They were all leaving Chicago's Chinatown.

Jacob Glasnovich, 28, a driver who was a few cars behind the Mazda, said the car appeared to be traveling at a high speed. He said it spun out of control before catching fire.

Cyndi Chao, an NIU student, waited at the medical examiner's office Wednesday morning.

"They were three of my best friends," she said.

Come on man thats a bit OT...have some respect mate.

With respect for those deceased and their families, but is it normal to not remove the deceased before the vehicle was towed, unless the police suspect "other" reasons.

Here on almost all occasions the people are removed from wrecks at the scene by the Ambulance staff behind erected covers.

Very SAD.

If the occupants were in the car as it burned, it may have taken too long to "seperate" the occupants from the car while at the scene. I'm sure they didn't want any other motorists to see the aftermath.

Quite sad news indeed.

Oh man, that's some bad news. Kinda creepy too, because I live 17 miles north of Chicago, and I'm going to Purdue next year, with my 8.

my apologies for reacting so insensitively. it was wrong, and i'm sorry for overreacting.

i've personally seen and experienced how irresponbile teenagers can be when they drive around causing accidents because of their carelessless and stupidity. and, all i can say is that unless u experience it for yourself or have friends/ family killed by these kids, u will not believe how irresponsible they are. in this case, the only people killed were the occupants of their own vehicle. they were lucky they didn't kill anyone else.

that said, i still shouldn't have reacted so angrily. and, i apologize sincerely.

^^ We understand your anger. The senselessness of it all... its such a tragedy, emotion is a powerful force. We've all lost someone we love one way or another, albeit tragic every time even when its expected as in old age.

We were all kids once, some of us still are. We're united by this car, and this forum.. so lets all just let these young souls rest in peace, and as I said in the other thread..

May their 8 have a choice parking spot in that great lot in the sky.

You didnt have to apologize, but it shows alot of respect to do so. I am sure few would admit jumping the gun and letting emotion take over. Pretty awesome of you to explain yourself.
