What do you mean by new oiling system also i thought the suspension changed too.

zoom44 01-14-2008 10:25 AM

you didnt ask about suspension changes you specifically asked if the engine had changed. read the big thread starting on page 18 https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-media-news-11/facelifted-rx8-revealed-135098/page18/ look for the press release on that page

What's up with the new oil system? I didn't see anything following the link. The front looks more aggressive, but overall I don't like it, I just hate that now people will say, "oh you have the older RX8"

Does the 8 have oil coolers to the right and left of the radiator opening like the seven? If so, it looks like the new bumper has bigger openings, which is a good thing.

pretty sure there are some minor changes, they will not release a whole new car with nothing changed. just like the new Z

I believe that Noboru Katabuchi (Rx-8 program manager) mentioned during the Detroit show that there would be a change in the apex seal (also to be implemented in the 16X) that will result in lower oil consumption. The oil pump has also been replaced from a mechanical to electric system to improve the startup capability in cold weather.

woah, when did they go to mechanical, in 89 the RX7s went to electric and I assumed its been that way since

Electronically controlled mechanical. The pumping action was (and has been up to now) a mechanical pump driven on the same gear as the internal oil pump and valved by an electric stepper motor that just controls the flow.
The new pump has an electric motor in it, IIRC, so it can pump when the motor is off.
Going to key-on pushes oil into the motor before it cranks, improving startup.
