Consumer Reports

I just went to consumerreports.com to look at the reports for the '94 accord. However in the mean time, i also stumbled upon an option to veiw consumer reports on the RX-8 :D by accident of course. They require a subscription to view the reports for the rx-8. Just wondering if anyone has a subscribtion and if they could go check it out for allov us.

Hi feelthesweetbea,

I don't have a subscription but I did browse through the 2003 consumer reports booklet at the magazine shelves the other day. The rx-8 was in there but didn't have any information. I would assume the website probably wouldn't have any either.

Here's the text....

The new RX-8, due in the spring of 2003, is a modern sports car that follows in the tradition of the RX-7, which was retired in 1995. The RX-8 marks the return of the "Wankel" rotary engine to the U.S. The new car will offer about 250 hp without the previous model's turbocharging. Unlike the RX-7, with its cramped cabin and two seats, the RX-8 is a four-seater. It's one of a flock of new or yet-to-be-released cars that have rear-hinged "suicide" rear doors and no center roof pillar. That makes access to the RX-8's small two-seat rear much easier.

The tabled stuff is vague and full of things we already know. Couple interesting things:
1. Estimated weight - 2600 lbs
2. Estimated cost ~$30,000

Thanks Guy! 2600 lbs would be a dream come true. iany car that is near 1150 kg has to be good.

I'd be REALLY surprised if it weighed 2600.. from all acounts it should be around 2850.

wakeech 12-30-2002 05:31 PM

that CAR Magazine article said 1315kg...
that's damn near 2900lbs... which is exactly what we've been thinking all along...

food for thought: the BASE MODEL 1986 FC3S was 2625lbs., which eventually ballooned up to 3003lbs. for the 1991 Turbo II, and 3115lbs. for the convertible auto...
the FD's were also all between 2800-2900lbs. (for the range of models), so an RX-8 with four pretty useable seats and a fair sized trunk wieghing in at 2900lbs. is pretty damned good...

Well it is and it isn't.. My Prelude with VERY similar dimensions is 2950lbs. I admit, there probably will be more room in the rear but I was hoping for the RX-8 to be in mid to low 2800's..
