August '05 Sales Numbers

Wow those numbers suck. Looks like employee discounts > all.

Frostee 09-02-2005 09:54 PM

no surprise there. especially with gas prices skyrocketting, any dealership should be happy to sell any car, especially one like the 8.

looking at a dealership near here, 2 months ago, the got a delivery of 8 rx8s, and now, there are still 8 of them there. (not that its a high-selling car here, i thought 8 of them was too many for one dealer), but it goes to show the trend....

RX-Hachi 09-03-2005 06:28 PM

Seems to be holding steady now at 1000+ some odd units per month. It will be interesting to see what affect, if any, the new MX-5 has on sales in the coming months.

ASH8 09-03-2005 06:56 PM

Here in Australia Last Month (August) RX-8 sales were 109, these are the numbers that Mazda Australia predicted after the initial few years of sales.

The 8 was never intended to be a volume seller compared to other models, there are also capacity restraints..ie. rotary engine assembly for the world market-- being totally had built in Japan by experienced techs.

I would say that the 1000-1200 sales in the US are what is now expected for the 8s market.

And now the fuel price will slow all cars sales down for cars that are heavy users.

CERAMICSEAL 09-03-2005 10:33 PM

Thank God for the 3 and the 6. Without them Mazda would feally be sucking. Again, I say, I wait with baited breath for the CX-7. It's deplorable that with over 700 dealers they can oly manage to sell less than 500 trucks. Rediculous!

mdmaclean 09-04-2005 11:59 AM

The numbers are poor compared to the G35 coupe too, which is still doing 2444 in August. I am sure that the problems highlighted in some of the long term tests from the car magazines hurt the 8.

I will still look at getting another one in a couple of years when I return to Canada, especially if it has a turbo/supercharger...

XerEagle 09-04-2005 04:58 PM

I guess we get to keep them exclusive and that will probably not change in the near future. With the rotary engine being different, I believe most people want to stay with what they know… Cylinders. I can still say I get stares and very positive comments about my ‘8’.

mdmaclean 09-05-2005 04:44 AM

I certainly miss mine... :(

SikRedRX-8 09-05-2005 09:25 AM

Did you see the numbers for the 350 they are still almost the exact same from last year.

brillo 09-05-2005 11:12 AM

Look on the bright side, when sales begin to dip mid life cycle, Mazda releases the Mazdaspeed version :)

The 8 is not an Accord, its sales cycle is exactly what I would have predicted, its not rocket science to figure out how sports cars sell.

The good news is that Mazda sold so many 8's over the last 2.5 years there is no worry about not getting there investment back.

KPRX 09-05-2005 11:54 PM

dealers don't showcase 8s

I drive by dealers and they rarely have an 8 in sight. They do a deporable job with the car.

c2k4-8 09-06-2005 08:19 AM

My Mazda dealer only has 3 RX8's all white. To sell cars - you need to have the cars on the lot.

wedge357 09-06-2005 08:31 AM

Whenever I drive by my dealer's car lot I can always see at least 10 RX-8s on the lot all in different colors including several Shinka editions. The dealers do need to put them out on the front of the lot though for people to see easily. These are all on the side/back of the lot away from customer traffic, which is not how I would sell a flagship car if you ask me. Dealers I guess understood that the 8 will never be a bigseller so they emphasize the 6 and 3 a lot more than the 8.

With the way Mazda Australia proffiteer an extra 60% over the same car in Japan. Would anyone really expect the RX-8 to sell well in Oz.....???

runningnorthRX-8 09-12-2005 05:10 PM

Actually that's why I was able to buy my 8 for $24,999. It was on the back of the lot for an entire year-its a sunlight siver 6-speed with the sport package. They had a Shinka in the showroom for $38,000-I told the sales guy that seemed alittle steep, but he said I can have the last silver '04 for close to invoice. An hour later I drove off with it-by far the best car available new for $25k... :)

MI_FamilyMan 09-12-2005 08:10 PM

My local dealer does not appear to have too many 8's in stock either. I am not sure if it was due to the brief suspension of sales or the plant fire, etc.

But I can't imagine they will sell too many if they are not advertising the car and you cannot even see one on the lot. They didn't even have any brochures. I wonder if they are getting ready for the 2006???

cracka 09-13-2005 05:34 PM

I was one of those August '05 buyers. :D

CERAMICSEAL 09-13-2005 10:41 PM

Congratulations!!!

rotary crazy 09-28-2005 07:36 AM

can some one tell me why would mazda increase production if sales are down, july=2,689, august= 3,528 ?

another thing I was under the impresion that mazda only made cars that were allready order fron the dealers?

Frostee 09-28-2005 07:46 AM

could those production numbers relate to the upcoming '06 model?

Shinka13 09-28-2005 08:22 AM

I still think that a good part of the reason they're not selling is because there is no advertising on them. The only time I've seen a ad for them is in car magazines where the people reading the magazine already know about the 8. They (Mazda) need to advertise the 8 on T.V., then the car would sell like it should.

rotary crazy 09-28-2005 09:56 AM

maybe anticipating a boost in sales?

I doubt it. What would cause a boost in sales of a sports car moving into the winter season? I think Frostee is right and it has something to do with the 06 model. Maybe they're anticipating advertising this one more, thus selling more vehicles, or maybe it just kicks the ass of the current model(better AC :p ), but I don't know for sure.
