Well, at 1500 miles, I decided that break-in was officially over. Time to quit being Mr. Nice Guy, and spin the Renesis to its full potential. Got on the on-ramp to the turnpike, and as there was nobody behind me, came to a full stop, set the G-Timer, and let it rip. Zoooooom, Beep. Yeehaw! Hit second. Zoooom, beep. Yeehaw! Went to third, and the gears ground. WTF? The gears engaged, but definitely ground when I slapped the shifter into the gate. But as I was having too much fun.....zooooom, beep. Yeehaw! Hit fourth. Zooooom....beep! But I think it was my radar detector doing the beep thing (its K-band "beep" sounds too similar), so I let off the gas pretty quickly. Not sure how fast I was going, as I was looking at the road and the tach, not the speedo. The G-Timer indicated a 0-60 run of 7.1 seconds. Not sure how accurate that thing is (probably off at least some), but regardless, it wasn't too bad for my first run, and for doing a moderately sane takeoff, rather than a high-rev/sidestep. Way, WAY too much fun!

Not sure what the deal was with the 3rd gear grinding. Maybe I shift too fast. I have some Redline MT-90 tranny oil on the way, so hopefully that issue will be resolved (or at least improved upon) once I get the better gear oil in there.

You probably got the clutch a touch ahead of the gearbox. Also, your car is quite new, so the gearbox is still proabably a bit stiff. My gears haven't crunched in quite awhile - have 6600 miles on my car.

You are probably correct that my shifting technique could be part of the problem -- this is the first manual I've had in 15 years, so I'm a bit rusty. :)

Are you running the stock tranny oil, or have you replaced it with something else?

Box stock, baby ... no need to rush if you're not on a track.

That's about what I got on my G-Tech too on a normal clutch drop. My best so far was 6.4 secs with a 5K rpm clutch drop. I think if I copied the mags and dropped at 7K revs I'd be close to 6 secs flat. But I don't feel the need to do that, I'm happy with the 6.4 secs. The car performs as advertised as far as I'm concerned!

I know there are lots of folks that don't believe the results of such timing devices, but I use it as a relative gage for myself. Still better than trying to use a stop watch.

Bill...lol, I'm almost there too...I'm at 1,350 miles and once I hit 1,500 I'm taking her to 9K heaven. I can't wait!!! So far I've broken her in with a modified RB break-in style but I think at 1.5K I'm taking her to 9K!

So far I've gone up to 7.25K and even at that shift point I had a big smile so I can't wait for 9K. I think, I want to film my first 9K trip and share it with everyone...lol, we will see.

Enjoy but be careful out there...too many stories of bad stuff happening lately.

My best gTech timer 0-60 run was 6.3 seconds with a clutch dump of 4000 RPM, DSC in fully-off position, and shifting at the beeper.

gTech, I would love to get one and I remember reading they were pretty dang accurate...but what's the deal with them? Are they good or a waste of money?

I don't (personally) have any experience with the G-Tech, so can't offer anything. I have the GT-1 G-Timer, made by Escort:

The G-Timer appears to be relatively accurate, but I don't have anything with known accuracy to compare it with. For $100, it's a lot of fun, even if its accuracy is questionable. If nothing else, it's good for comparative evaluations.

I bought a first generation one on eBay from a guy named gtechpro who has hundreds of them - I think it's the company dumping old stock.

Anyway, new ones cost $200 and up, and I paid $26.00 for this one. Cheap enough to be a WTF toy.

So, are they accurate - as far as I can tell, the 0-60 timer is incredibly accurate. The HP rating is "road horsepower", which is different than "wheel horspower" which is different than "crank horsepower". On my best HP runs, I've displayed 184 road horsepower, which takes into account road slope, traction, wind, etc. I haven't run the 1/4 mile timer yet. One of these days on a deserted road, or at a race track.

But, the question you did not ask ... is it fun? Yup, it's a hoot.

Although using it seems very detrimental to gas mileage. Last time I used it, I burnt nearly 1/4 of a tank of gas in about 35 minutes. Of course I had at least 15 WOT acceleration runs during that 35 minutes, but I'm sure that had nothing to do with it ... :rolleyes:

Bill, maybe it's your writing style and not your actual shifting style but 2nd-3rd needs a pretty deliberate manuever. I might not move the shifter lightening fast but I find that my redlined 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are the smoothest the box has to offer.

Redline fluid will help, but I find with the Redline that the trans needs to be warmed up before the shifting gets slick.

2nd to 3rd is a deliberate action but don't be too deliberate or you might move into the space between 3rd and 5th. I think that's how Rotario got the grind.
