wut intake do i put in
im looking for a intake to put in my 2005 mazda rx8 i was lookin at the k&n typoon 2 what are the reviews on that intake
|
ehh dont waste your money.
My .02 |
will i lose power
|
You will either gain barely any or lose some.
I wouldn't say worth it for how much money you'll spend. |
KN claims good gains in power with that intake, why are the reviews on it so poor?
|
There is absolutely no intake that will get you more than 5-10 HP. That's generous, considering most get just a couple, if they don't lose/gain nothing. This engine was optimized pretty damn flawlessly. Your best bet is to get a Cobb Accessport with MazdaManiac tuning if you're looking for something worthwhile. You get some power AND all sorts of other good things.

keep it stock

The two favorite intakes are:
1. Racing Beat Intake w/ Duct 2. AEM |
As Twiztog said, just go with whatever you feel is worth it. You're not going to be downgrading or upgrading anything to a significant extent and unless you're an autocrosser this choice is pretty much a personal preference. The K&N from what I understand is a short-ram hot air intake (Which is a downgrade from the stock CAI) whereas the AEM is a true CAI that slightly outperforms stock.
The way I see it, it comes down to a number of things. Do you care about keeping your car's engine cooler with the AEM? Or would you rather sacrafice that gain for the K&N's satisfying sound? Some people might even choose K&N over the AEM just so they don't have to put up with the possibility of the AEM taking in too much water from hard rain/puddles, etc. There's a couple of other intakes out there too, but since I only know a little about these two, thought I'd just throw in my two cents. Gotta admit, though, the AEM looks real nice in the bay. |
i found this intake wut u think of it http://www.rotaryfx.com/product_p/per1026.htm
|
if your going to do it stay away from K&N. Go with mazda speed only. Also get together with your regional group so your not back in here trying to figure out why it doesn't work because you took the screen you need out. Leave it stock or only use mazdaspeed.
|
I have the Revi+duct, if it weren't for the sake of making the engine bay look stock I would have went for the AEM. The numerous pros of AEM imo:
1. No need to re-oil filter 2. Free up space under stock intake box for better cooling 3. Makes battery relocation all the more desirable since you wont be leaving a big hole which looks odd if you have the revi intake box. 4. Possible to still be uses if you wanna go turbo. 5. Costs 6. Bling |
Typhoon 2 is shit
K@N drop-in with Racing Beat duct. Best bang for the buck But try the handy SEARCH button to come to a conclusion yourself Good day Sir |

RotaryFX is a bit over priced |
go for the AEM cold air intake. You wont any difference on power but the sound it makes will make you smile everytime you press the gas.

Best intake is the Racing Beat
|
I havn't played with the racing beat, but don't you still need like the mazda speed intake on top of it? I think it only replaces the intake in the bumper portion and switches it to ram air correct?
|
For NA best intake is stock, plain and simple. Instal a turbo and your best bet is something fabricated similar to how the AEM is setup.
Beyond that waste of money. K&N is only nice if you want sound... But then we'll all call u a ricer. |
