Wtf?!?!

Keep in mind I just moved from Michigan to North Dakota. Anyways, I pull up to the local Mazda dealership today, started getting stares from all the people, including salesman. I finally park and realize, they're probably gawking cus they've never seen one before. I walk into the building and talk to one of the salesman telling him I needed an oil change. He replied with alrighty, an then proceeded to ask me what car I had. I told him I had an RX-8, and he said no way. I pointed it out to him and he said holy shit. At this point I was starting to doubt I would be getting my oil changed today. Turns out, they've never even gotten one yet and they're EXPECTING ONE in October. They had to look at the actual oil filter(to get the part number since they don't have the catalog yet) and told me they would give me a call once it came in. All I have to say is wtf? Will this void my warranty since I was not able to change the oil at 3000 miles, due to the dealership not having the part yet? Will this hurt the car itself at all? And if not how many miles do you think one can go without getting their oil changed and not hurting the engine. Some of you will say, just don't drive the car, but it's my only mode of transportation at the moment.

I thought you were suppose to get it done every 5000 miles as per the manual.

They didn't have a miata filter???

Are they supposed to be interchangeable? It never even occured to me to ask that. They had tons of miatas in the lot.

they all use the same filter.

also, you don't have to have the oil changed at a dealer........go someplace else

I'm originally from North Dakota. Now live in Minnesota. Not sure where you live, but since the biggest city outside of Fargo is 60,000 people, I'm not at all suprised they haven't gotten the car yet.

I'm in Rochester MN, Population 80,000 and only 65 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul and my car(picked up yesterday 8/2) was the first car my dealer had received.

Wow that's funny, my home town is 45,000 people, this is in Canada where we only get 700 for the year and the dealer already sold 3.

Missing an oil change won't void your warranty.. service schedule is a recommended procedure, there is no legal requirement for following it to get warranty work.

Warranty, however can be denied if they can prove that the problem was caused by abuse of the vehicle.

You can change the oil without changing the filter you know... The filter might not function as good as it should but at least you're removing the bad oil with newer oil for the time being.
