wreck T.T

I wrecked my 8 so now once insurance kicks in i need a new car till then I'm stuck calling in favors to get to work. odds are I'm not going to get another 8 witch leaves me with a few problems the first being I need to figure out what kind of car I want to get I was looking at a scion tc before I decided on an RX-8 but I"m not sure... what do you guys think? The other being I just got an Axialflow Short shifter and an audio link kit with the Bluetooth adapter thing witch I'm not going to have a use for if i don't get another 8.

rxwarrior 12-11-2009 01:20 PM

I would get another 8 if I wanted the 4 doors. If I wanted a 2 door, I'd look at a Hyundai Genesis, Nissan 370 or even 350, or a new Camaro.
Right now if I was in your situation, I'd probably buy another truck (Toyota Tacoma) because with all this DAMN snow, I'm REALLY missing my Dodge Ram!

rodjonathan 12-11-2009 01:22 PM

id get the 8 again too the camaro ss is a good option too the genesis is ok but from what im seeing with a few friends that have it they get boring really quickly ... and as far as for the snow rxwarrior is right a truck would be your best bet!

xun4gvn4everx 12-11-2009 01:25 PM

It all depends on what you are looking for in a car. Their are options for all tastes. And the other thing is the amount of money you are willing to spend

J wind 12-11-2009 01:45 PM

Well, how much have you got to work with? What are your needs? Is this your only car? I still would buy the 8 again though :D:

vhinnnn 12-12-2009 12:21 PM

I'm just going to have what i get from the insurance on my 8 it was a 2006 gt with 21000 miles on it plus about 2 to 3 more thousand depending on how much i can sell my dodge stealth for.

I would love to get another 8 but the original funding for the car came from my mother so she get a say in what car i get and after seeing my 8 all munched up shes not letting me get another one

I'll post some pics of it once i get home from work

Transam kid 01 12-12-2009 12:32 PM

You aren't looking at too much money to play with. First you need to tell us what you want out of a car/in a car and what you plan on doing with the car. Do you want new or used? etc. You need to tell us all this and more for us to help you with deciding.

vhinnnn 12-12-2009 07:09 PM

well I'm not really sure what I want I know I want a car not a truck or an SUV and its going to be a car I drive on a daily basis. I would like a car that stands out like the 8. something newer at least 05 and up. more than likly its going to have to be a used car i would like something with no more than 40k on it and I'm estimating ill have around 14-15k to spend on it

Kaiser bun 12-12-2009 07:13 PM

good luck.... if thats the situation then yes i would say scion TC, however coming from an 8 that will suck...

chino0314 12-12-2009 07:15 PM

jesus how many 8s going out this month

HWK11 12-12-2009 07:19 PM

mine just got in a bump.. sucks

CaptainEggs 12-12-2009 08:46 PM

wow. wth happened? cause from the looks of things... you flipped the thing.

HWK11 12-12-2009 08:56 PM

dammmmm
wow glad that your okay

RandallzRx8 12-12-2009 09:06 PM

So, can we get a story on exactly what happened to your 8?

Kaiser bun 12-13-2009 12:09 PM

lol that should just buff out :)

XlYesterdaYlX 12-13-2009 12:49 PM

Get a camaro.

Well if you're parents wont let you get another 8 and you still want to have some fun (while I don't advise it after see these pics....) you can look into a cobalt SS, Civic Si (might be out of price range), Mazdaspeed 6 (Don't know if they're that low yet, but you can try), or a WRX. Obviously all of them would be used.

GearDriven 12-13-2009 01:55 PM

Why did you get the 8 in the first place? Scion tC wouldn't be the first place I would look for a replacement, neither would a Camaro. And they wouldn't be the second, third, fourth, or fifth either...

exsequor 12-13-2009 02:08 PM

Wow that's quite the wreck. Get whatever car you want? I agree get another 8.

well I'm not exactly sure what happened theres a 300ft difference between the spot where I thought I went off and the spot were I actually did but from the looks of the car and the area where I crashed I went through a telephone pole and ended up upside down 200ft after the telephone pole on the other side of the road

how munched up are you? you're mom should be thankful that the car took the beating and not you. thats a sign of a very well designed car. and im going to bet you would not look half as good if that was a camaro. rx8s are very safe in a roll over. you can see that, because it looks like you absolutely wiped out. flipped the car and skidded upside for god knows how long.

i want to know more details.

also, i would suggest a 2001-2005 bmw.

vhinnnn 12-13-2009 03:50 PM

I'm in way better shape than the car all I have is a bruise where the seatbelt was

exsequor 12-13-2009 04:03 PM

That's because mazda makes a very safe car. I can personally vouch for this.

I hit the front left side of a SUV in my mazda 6 going 45mph and walked out just fine. I also got "rear ended" on the interstate in my rx8 and looked in my rear view about 20 seconds later (I thought something happened to my tranny lol), and saw a black car totalled into a light pole. Pulled over and inspected my 8, and all I had was a few scratches in my rear bumper (didn't dent or break it). What happened was I switched lanes (I always look around my shoulder at my blind spot regardless of what I'm driving), and I change lanes. Well as soon as I switch lanes, I down shift to 3rd (I had a ATX), at 70mph, as soon as I down shift my car like instantly gets pushed to 80mph in a way that I thought something was wrong with my car. Turns out I got rear ended at 70+mph and their car totalled cuz of it, and nothing but a couple scratches on my rear bumper. You couldn't even tell from like 5 feet away. Not sure if it was a miracle or if the mazdas design had anything to do with it. But I totally think they're some of the safest cars on the road.

What kind of a retarded question is that? His 8 is gone and he wants to move on to another car. Sorry if he doesn't feel like being married to an 8 his entire life, and wtf is wrong with a tc or a camaro? or is this the part you tell me scion makes horrible cars and camaro can only go straight fast?

JinDesu 12-14-2009 09:12 AM

For 15k, you can get a variety of used cars. WRX sedans are a great bargain for that price. TCs come in cheaper than 15k, you can find a good used one for 9-12k.

And that's one HELL of a wreck...

CarAndDriver 12-14-2009 11:46 AM

How old are you? And was the accident your fault?

If it was your fault, your insurance rate is going to go sky high. Unless you have money to spend for the next few years, get something that will have lower insurance rates and it's not going to be a Civic Si, WRX, etc.

stewiefied 12-14-2009 12:27 PM

i say get a used 07-08 camry V6 (268hp) retail 13000-18000 the insurance is crazy low on these cars they look good and perform well i had an 07 and loved it

vhinnnn 12-14-2009 02:35 PM

thanks for all the suggestion I'm making a list of them all and looking into them

G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 12-14-2009 03:02 PM

see how much insurance wants for the car, ill take it maybe :P

sad to see. get another 8

kersh4w 12-14-2009 03:41 PM

make sure to tell your mom that the car is super safe. the car wrecked because of driver error. you walked away cause the car is very safe.

people's logic sometimes amazes me.

GearDriven 12-15-2009 09:01 AM

A Valid One?

Well there was a reason he got the RX to begin with. If he got it because he thought it looked cool, then the tC and the Camaro are great options. Wanted to impress friends? great. Like to accelerate? Get the Camaro.

Here's what's wrong with the cars:
tC:
Front Wheel Drive is Front Wheel Drive and will never be anything else. I raced a street tire integra with coilovers and all sorts of comptech goodies on it...it could corner faster than my RX8 can for sure.... But it was FWD and thus had the dynamics of a FWD car. If that doesn't bother you...great...if it does...look elsewhere. A fat chick in a party hat is still a fat chick.

It has all the soul of every modern Toyota. In other words, none. It's based on a platforms that was designed for sedans and station wagons in Europe.

It does look sharp and will hopefully have that wonderful Toyota reliability...so if that's what the OP is looking for, then it's a great buy. But I wouldn't really consider it to be a driver's car.

Camaro
  • Bus driver wheel
  • Bad pedal placement
  • It weighs two tons
  • Understeer stock
  • fit and finish
  • insurance
  • it is a big, huge car
So neither of these cars are in the same category as eachother or the RX8. So what I am asking the OP is: why did you get the RX-8? Have those desires changed? If the only reason you aren't getting an RX-8 again is because your mom is going to veto it, then it's probably better to look at similar platforms.

BTW thanks for the flame, retard.

CTrx8 12-15-2009 09:13 AM

i'm still waiting for more info on how and what exactly happened.

rx8phase1 12-15-2009 10:05 AM

Holy $hit I just crashed my 8 too but doesn't look half as bad as yours I'm planning on getting a white 2006 sti

Zerotide 12-15-2009 11:20 AM

You can get a Mazdaspeed6 with low miles for 15k easy.

Personally, my guess is driver error/unsafe driving. The OP has repeatedly ignored mentioning it and is young so most likely that's it.

shazy 12-15-2009 08:47 PM

Fuckkk that's one hell of a wreck!

vhinnnn 12-15-2009 10:36 PM

well im farly sure it was my fault but I'm not sure what exactly happened like I said before I don't remember driving the 300ft before there were signs I went off the road and I wasn't drinking or on any thing. I was defiantly speeding because I went through a telephone pole and from the dints on my car if flipped end over end. The highway patrol that show up said that its fairly common to not remember a what happened prior to the wreck and i may remember in a few days but so far all I remembered was the song i was listening to before it happened

Get a moped! At least that way you won't kill anyone else the next time you wreck a vehicle. The MS6 is a fast car and apparently you are not ready to drive a fast car.

hey I didn't kill any people or hit any also I wasn't on a road were there would have been people so I would have been sol had I been hurt, How ever I do agree with you on the not ready to drive a fast car or rather deserve a fast car because no mater what I get its going to go at least 80 and thats around my guess of what I was going

also a moped would be cold!

It's good you're being honest and taking responsibility for the accident.

That said, your mom is 100% right on this one. If you don't have enough situational awareness to know how fast you were going ("at least 80"? Really?) when you careened off of a road (baring a medical problem) in a ~3000 pound vehicle, ran into a telephone pole, and flipped over before coming to a stop 200 feet away, you probably should not be driving a car that is capable of hitting the speeds that the RX8 is able to.

Thank your lucky stars you walked away without any injuries (I sure did, and I wasn't even in the accident!) and without hurting anyone else, work on becoming a better (read: more aware) driver, and upgrade to another RX8 when you are mature enough to handle the responsibility that comes with driving a sports car as a young adult.

Best of luck in your search, and I really don't mean to flame. This is just honestly how I would look at the situation if I was in your shoes.

Symbioticgenius 12-15-2009 11:29 PM

I agree with OP taking responsibility. As far as what to get next. I would wait a bit if you can. Drive the Stealth. Once the new Ft-86 comes out, and we know pricing you might have something worth driving on your hands.

Also, you definitely want to get interested in finding out why you blacked out in the first place. If you know why and just aren't saying (smart) then don't do it again, if you honestly don't know, this can become a huge issue that you need to be aware of ASAP. Get some medical tests done.

Good Luck.

bhop 12-16-2009 01:01 AM

Damn, I would have suggested a G/Z for $15,000 05-earlier, lol.... Anyways, since you have considered the type of responsibility that is needed in any "fast car", then take some more time and think about what exactly happened that caused this. Regardless of what car stands before you next, there is always a risk. I'd give it some thought. I agree with the very few post before me.

vhinnnn 12-16-2009 12:57 PM

I some what agree with you guys on the fast car thing and the responsibility involved but I also disagree for 2 reasons:
the first being by saying I shouldn't get another fast car because i crashed mine and I don't have what it takes to drive one. you guys are pushing some of the blame on the car when there is no blame to be put on it i could have been driving a smart car and still wrecked it in the same place.
The second my car having the ability to go fast so i would think that it would have to have more safety features Vs. one that cant go as fast I'm not sure about that but it seems logical to me. so imagine if i had been driving a smart car and ran in to a telephone pole at 80mph think I would have made it?

I'm not saying that because I'm planning on going out and getting another fast car Im going to get a car that i like because I don't want to be stuck driving a car that I hate every day. Im open to any car i can afford thats why I'm asking i don't really have an exact thing I'm looking for so there are a ton of cars to choose from and you guys are giving me a place to start looking

fuztupnz 12-19-2009 12:15 PM

I've been waiting waiting to post until i heard the story. If I were you, I would worry about what happened and how you can prevent it, not about what car is next. It's been 13 years and 1 week since i totaled my my first car at 17, and i remember every instant and detail about that accident. If you know why you blacked out and aren't telling us, keep it that way. If you don't know why, and the events don't come to memory soon, be sure to be checked out. You're extremely lucky to be alive, and I applaud the fact that you are taking responsibility for what happened. Whatever you get next should come with some serious thought about how you drive it. No one was hurt luckily, but you have to think about more than that. Any accident effects more than just those involved. Think of your parents and how it probably scared the life out of them. They are more than likely paying the price especially if they pay for the car and insurance. What if next time someone else is involved? Their families are effected as well. I know first-hand what happens to the other people involved and even though everyone is fine now, I still think about them to this day and wish them well. Please take a step back and look at what happened, how it happened, and how it effected everyone around you before you buy another car and go tearing down the road.

Best of luck to you kid! Again, I applaud your honesty and the fact that you've taken responsibility. Please don't take my post as a dig at you or judgement. I'm just offering some advice from someone who's been there. I'm hopping off my soap box now.

Cheers and happy holidays.

vhinnnn 12-30-2009 01:24 PM

Finally got a hold of the insurance after i missed all there calls and they missed mine and there saying there going to give me 17623 which is more than i thought i was going to get

Bigbacon 12-30-2009 01:36 PM

bet you dozed off. first accident I was ever in was because I fell asleep for like a second and bam... I don't remember anything but the airbag going off and scaring the hell out of me.

no more over night, no sleep lan parties for me after that.
