would you let the dealer swap out the trunk? (to remove spoiler)

OK , there seems to be some discrepancy on whether the 8 I have coming in has a spoiler or not. The dealer first thought it did (I was looking for a GT titanium/chaparel with no spoiler) since I'm not a huge fan of the spoiler.

The dealer first said they could easily swap out the trunk to one without the spoiler, which I wasn;'t so crazy about- I thought who knows- it could lead to squeeks, etc down the road.

Then the dealer said it turns out there is no spoiler, and that's the car I put a deposit on and am just about about to pay for. (they indicate I have to wrap up the deal before the end of the month to get the invoice price)

Checking on mazda's site- that vin # indicates a spoiler- so maybe it was a port installed option the dealer won't realize until they actually see it in their showroom.

I bet they will call me in the next day and say- " hey this car came in with the spoiler- do you want it or should we swap it out'?

Of course if it was for free, I'd consider it, but since it most likely will not, would YOU let them swap out the trunk?

And lastly- if I just get it and it doesnt have the spoiler- should I confirm with Mazda- they raise a stink the dealer did something I specifiacally requested them not to do.

They are not going to give you a new car if that is what you want over a spoiler. Swapping the trunk is no big deal at all. You won't get squeeks or leaks or anything like that. Just let them do it. It is no big deal.

I don't think I'd be to concerned if they need to swap out the trunk. It shouldn't be that difficult of a procedure. If they do swap it out, I'd just open it and close it before you leave the lot.

If they swap the trunk lid and the gap around is even and the lid closes just fine, you're ok. Real easy to see if you will have a problem. Even if they get it on wrong, it's easy to fix/adjust. Just make sure the color matches. That's the only part not easy to fix.

My RX had the spoiler as well. At first glance, I didn't want it. Talked to the salesperson who said they could swap the lids. When he talked to the shop & Sales manager they decided that it was too much of a pain to pull the lids off of two cars, swap and align. They instead offered me the spoiler under their cost. After having the car a month, I have to say it grew on me.

Since you ordered w/o the spoiler, you have a right to tell them on delivery that you won't pay for the additional cost. Then it is up to them what to do... it could be a negotiating point or they will eat the time of the swap. Either way it should work for you as long as they do a good job on the swap, as others have noted. As I see it, it is their problem that they have to make right with you. Good luck, it really is a great vehicle.

It is my understanding that this is a dealer installed option. When I ordered my 8 I wanted the spoiler and it was the dealer who had to put it on. I am uncertain why it would show on the invoice through Mazda as including the spoiler. My only guess is that someone else ordered this car but backed out maybe?

it is EXTREMELY easy to swap the trunk lids. another8owner (who works at a dealership near me) bought his with the spoiler but decided to get an aftermarket wing to replace it. so that he wouldn't have to go to the time, effort and expense of removing the OEM spoiler, then filling and painting over the holes left and then drilling new holes for the new wing he offered to trade trunk lids with someone and i agreed. he came to my house one night after work last month, so that we could use my garage. it took us maybe about 1/2 an hour to swap them around and then maybe about 15 minutes of adjusting to get the gaps lined up. the longest part of the swap was probably removing all of the screw/inserts from the liner, it needs to be removed to unclip the 3rd brake light and wires, and then putting them back on. it shouldn't be a problem for anyone of even slight mechanical abilites.

Just have them swap the trunk lids, done deal.

Hey, I'd switch my trunk lid in a second with anybody that had a rear euro lip spoiler. :)

Not sure about the 8, but on the bimmer, there is a serial# on each panel and that should match the vin# of the car. If you sell the car later on, and if the prospective buyer is careful enough, he might question you why that is not the original panel. It may lead him to believe the car has been involved in an accident and the truck is a replacement of the original.

Now that is a good fucking point, sir.

Make sure they align it right. I didnt align mine right when I took my trunk off and I chipped off paint :spank:

Sounds like your buying new.

Invoice? Even 2009 R3s are easy to go UNDER invoice. So you already got ripped.

Plus, dont buy their "We can swap the trunks no problem" crap.

If Mazda's search tool tells ya that the spoiler is already IN, that simply means its already installed.

So what does that mean ? that means you already "paid" for the spoiler, and now you tell them "you DONT want it", of course they have no problem swapping your trunk out with another one, then they can use "your spoiler" on the next car and sell it for higher. even 100 bux. money is money.

Your location saids NY NY, which dealership you're getting it from ? sounds like Koppell Mazda kind of thing.

kersh4w 04-13-2009 11:59 AM

omg. yet another failure.

this is 5 years old. this issue is no longer relevant.

nycgps 04-13-2009 12:01 PM

rofl. failed :(

Damn, should've look at the date.

Renesis07 04-13-2009 02:05 PM

wow. That was a waste of a post on my behalf

zoom44 04-13-2009 03:27 PM

on the issue of trunk swapping tho- :) i swapped mine way back in early 2004. no issues so far:)

i got a stock spoiler and the other guy got a fresh lid with no holes so he could drill for the wing he was getting

kersh4w 04-13-2009 08:56 PM
