Would you ever stop loving the Eight?
I know some of us have had more problems than others and sometimes reading these threads make it hard to bear sometimes. However, do any of you plan on getting another Eight when yours has bit the bullet? If you did would be the same color or model i.e. Sport, GT, or R3?
Even though I have had many issues with my RX-8 I’m still thinking of upgrading to a R3 in the future. I love the heck out of mine and going to fix her up. When the time comes time and it dies a horrid death. I love it so much I would not hesitate to go find a replacement. Am I crazy or are there others out there with the same thoughts? |
I voted we will see. I would probably replace it with a Z06, but if I were to get another 8, I would probably get an R3.

Nope, your are not crazy. My plan was to have one of each, an early 2004 and the latest 2011 I could find.
Then I was going to put the 2011 R3 in long term storage for ten years and continue driving the 04 until the wheels fell off. Well that plan changed after a 1200 mile weekend drive and one stern warning from the AZ highway patrol. The R3 is the car I have been looking for, for a long long time. |
So what did you guys vote than?
As there are 5 Yes!!! votes right now and ZERO No!!!! votes ... so you two fanboi's I think should have voted No!!! Example "Would you ever stop loving the Eight?" answer NO!!!! I voted the same as Roidz |
LMAO, change my yes to a no.
|
This car has made me a die-hard rotard; I don't think I could give it or any other rotary car up further down the road.
EDIT: FWIW, I did consider trading up to an S2 GT or R3 model at one point |
I would definitely get another 8 if I had the chance. An R3 might be a nice upgrade to my 04 in the future. :yesnod:
|
That teaches me to read the poll first, I thought the thread title was going to be the poll question... So that one no vote should be a yes lol.
|
I plan on gettin my hands on as many eights as possible lol the 04 i got now will be my racer, id get another series 1 and keep it stock, which is easier said than done, maybe just individual throttle bodies ;) and R3 would be sweet for the occasional fun street toy :)
|
If i were to get another rx8, it should have a Mazdaspeed body kits on it. So, you know what i voted for... :D:

Your topic title says "Will you ever stop loving your 8?" and yet your poll says "Will you ever get another 8?".
This is a joke right? A mislabeled poll to ensnare unwary voters? Shirley you can't be serious. |
AHAHAHAH
I pwnd myself!!!! fail For me however it doesn't change my answer we shall see |
I serious and don’t call me Shirley. :Freak_ani

I wish I had the money to get the R3. However, I want to wait till I get a house another car. I'll drive the heck out of the Eight I have now. If I get an r3 it will be to keep for a long, long time.

We have four locals who drive R3's. All four of them have owned previous gen RX-8's.
|
^^^ I doubt highly modified, since there is no clearcut solution to reflashing the ECU

I do love the 8.
As much as I love my Shinka and all the other Rotary cars, I will not get another 8 unless it's a cadaver to turn into a race car. The Renesis engines are way too picky for me to just get one off used off the street. I don't care if "S2 has fixed it". I simply don't trust Renesis any more than 13B-REW, I fear every time I turn the key it'll be the last time. I really don't need that anxiety. If my engine blows, I'll have a local shop rebuild it instead of getting an allegedly Mazda reman. The ONLY reason I wouldn't sell her is because she's a Shinka, one of what.. 1650? 1350? I can't remember the '05 production #'s.
I love this car, but sometimes I think she's a type-B Tsundere. Borderline type-A. For all I know she may be Yandere, one night she'll slit my throat in my sleep. The other day she tried killing me with gasoline! The "NUT, UNION F151-42-A14A" for the fuel pump failed, and on fill-up the cabin and the air around the car was nothing but gasoline vapor. A rolling bomb! Both sides plus their gaskets were replaced. That cost me a pretty penny, pennies I really didn't have to spare right now. It really is not a good time for breakdowns! This is just the latest in a long, long list. I've kept every scrap of paper done to this car in a binder. I'm going to need a bigger binder. Now, if they make a new Rx-8 or a new two-seat Rotary coupe with a next-gen rotary, I'll buy. But only if it's ~30k and carries at least a 10 year / 150,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. I want a real sports car, a cheap one, not some exotic. Build me another 1979 Rx-7, the SA22/FB, not another FD. I'll gladly trade a bit of horsepower, a bit of weight, for more reliability across the entire car. If my car were to get totaled right this second, I'd probably end up in a Mini Cooper S. The 8's dismal parts and build quality, plus Mazda's customer service has soured me to the marque. I can tell you from personal experience that they truly are putting effort into fixing customer service, but in the period of 1992 to today, it's been the pits, with the past year or two getting better. I still don't trust the service advisers, or the managers, or the mechanics. Like the one who put 6 quarts of oil into my car. Sorry, Mazda. You're one short and curly one from losing someone who's owned nothing but mazda since 1992. That loss is entirely down to one car (the 8) and horrid service. Get your shit together, yo! Sometimes I feel I own a Lotus! |
...but i want a lotus :( whats wrong with them?
|
Love my 8. Loved my MX-5's, but not getting another Mazda til they lose the gaping Joker mouth.
|
Instead of a mod fund I might just call it the R3 fund.:) Not sure what I would do though. I'm not clear if I would go for the R3 or just 2010 GT w/ Nav. I'm not too keen on the recaro seats; I like the stock ones look better with the rotary triangles in them. However, the R3 wheels are sick looking and the collectability will be much higher on the R3.
|
My R3 is my first ever rotary car. I love it. My favorite car Ive owned so far. I want another one. I want either a FC RX7 or an earlier 8. Something I can slap a big turbo on and beat the piss out of. Im the only guy in my group of car nut friends that has ever owned a rotary. I like being "that" guy.
