would not start: flooded engine or bad battery?

Had the car in the garage for 3 weeks and it would not start this morning.

What happens is that when I turned ignition, the needles in the dashboard just spin back and forward like crazy, dashboard light begin to flash, and I hear ke-ke-ke sound coming from under the hood.

First time this happening to me, just wonder is this the notorious engine flooding issue or something else (bad batter, misfire, etc.)

Thanks,

Sounds like the battery is dead.

umm seriously? Identifying a dead battery is one of the most basic things about owning a car. The flashing lights are because the starter is pulling such a heavy load on a dead battery that theres no juice left to light them.

Granted theres other things that can sort of cause this, but it's kind of a no brainer given the facts you give.

I edited this to be more useful...

If it was flooded it would sit there cranking and cranking and possibly billowing white smoke out the back. Then eventually you would get the same symptoms you indicate if you kept cranking and cranking.

No cranky....dead battery (or bad starter,etc..) but in this case dead battery
