worried oil problems

i have just bought a 3month old rx8...and the oil light has come on. I know of the problems with the oil lights everyone else has had...but mine does not turn off. I have checked the oil levels and they are fine, and the oil pressure is fine. I had mazda tow it away this morning. I had a series 6 rx 7 before and once this happened that was the end of the motor....any one know of this prolem???? i am not real happy.

If you do a search and type in oil or cel you should get ALOT of results. That should get you going in the right direction.

instead of just checking your oil, perhaps you should take it in to the dealer and get the oil pan replaced for the TSB that has been out since November 14th.

The oil pan baffles are what causes the oil light to come on. If you did some research, you would already know this.

BTW when the oil light comes on (if it's not defective like dunsfoda's), at what level is it on the dipstick? Anyone's experimented with this? I certainly would not dare.

Mine started to come on when it was only 1/3 rd of the way down. And only when I was driving 75mph+

And it actually will not hurt anything as it is just a early, early, early warning that you will be low in a week or so. :)

So there is no real need to check the oil level if you know that your oil warning light is functioning properly. Just top up when it lights up.

I didn't really mean it that way, I just said if you have the old style oil pan, the light will prematurely come on. I would not take the chance to wait for a light, check your oil regularly.

And if you have the early oil pan, get it replaced to be safe. That way if the light does come on, you know it could be trouble.

thanks guys...i already had done the research...my problem was the oil light was on and never went out again.... ie it was not coming on and going out again intermittently....i found the problem anyway....the switch had somehow been pulled out and needed to be plugged in again....trap for young players.

Glad your problem was solved so easily. I hate hearing about people loosing their babies for 2 or more weeks while the engine is being replaced.
