Winter Check
 

With Winter approaching, and looking that we can expect a quite sever winter this year, took the rx8 for a winter check at Furrows in Telford.

Was mainly concerned with the strength of the engine coolant, which performed -22ºc on the test. For precaution was advised to replace it before the severe temperatures arrive.

Another situation I had looked at was a squeaky noise coming from the clutch pedal, when fully depressed.
One of the head of mechanics came out and had a word with me saying that it would need to be inspected further, the gearbox would need to be removed, and that I could expect a big bill as result.

This noise started in August right after my car being serviced there, when they also changed the transmission fluid.

Could you guys please give me your opinion, or if anyone had this sort of problem before?

I had a problem in the clutch pedal last April. first it started to make squeak noise, which I didn't care much. But later the clutch started not to disengage.

The mechanic took off the pedal and we saw that it was broken (torn apart) on the side of its hinge.

I could buy a new one but Mazda parts are expensive and take a long time to supply in my country. So I had it welded by an experienced person. He strengthened it quite a bit. But for the last couple of weeks, the pedal started to make squeak noise again, very faint though but I wonder if its just a friction at the hinge or it started again to tear apart. I couldn't check it yet.

I think my problem is more related to the slave cylinder.

The squeaky noise just starts after using the clutch a few times and mainly when its hot.

Was trying to locate the slave cylinder to give it some lubrication but was unable to do it. anyone has any pictures?

with regards to your problem I think you can buy reinforced clutch brakets?

I noticed the noise was coming from somewhere deeper than pedal. If it's coming from slave cylinder then I don't think lubrication might solve it, because parts of the cylinder which must be lubricated are already lubricated by the brake/clutch fluid.

I have the same slave cylinder squeak sometimes after warming up and seems only when it's humid out. Doesn't seem to affect anything so far...
