Window Washer Keep Freezing
 

Now that it is actually cold outside(it's been around 30F to 19F), I have been having a problem with my window washers freezing up/not working, when it gets below freezing outside (now I'm not talking about when you get in you car in the morning and everything is frozen, I'm saying no matter what they don't seem to work when it's freezing outside). Then if it warms up to above or close to above freezing they will start to work again. Has anybody had this problem before? I really need to figure out what's going on because this is getting annoying and dangerous. Yesterday, I was driving back from my friends house, I was on the interstate and drove into a snow storm and the temp dropped and guess what like clock work my washers quite working, and you know the slop that gets put on your windows driving in those kinds of conditions, you all most need washers or you are screwed.

Note: I'm am using Winter washer fluid that good for like -25 so that should be the problem. Also, you can still hear the hum of the wash motor when they aren't working.

Did you check and see if something was blocking the nozzles for the washer fluid? I would also stick some of your " -25 " fluid in the freezer and see if it remains liquid. Be sure to warn anyone in the house not to mess with your experiment.

As for checking the nozzles for blockage, when this first started happening I would either run my fingers over them and used a can of compressed air to blow them out. I haven't poked them with a needle or anything like that because I did that to a previous car I owned and messed up the nozzle. I will try the experiment, but I mean this fluid that I'm using is the stuff you pick up at walmart, and I have used this stuff in all the other cars I have owned and I have never had problem like this.

Are our nozzles heated? I know on some cars the heated mirrors only turn on when the rear defrost is on...maybe the same holds true for the heated nozzles. Try running the rear defrost even if it ain't frosty.

I use -45 degree fluid and don't have this issue.

I've seen blue stuff freeze(I think -25). The orange stuff(deicer), here in NY doesn't seem to freeze.

:cool: well it's -17 here in va.this day and i want you all to remember to put an extra coat of wax on those hoods because some of the real good products will stain your paint pretty bad (white or light silver paints)and it's a bit-- to buff off sometimes when left on the paint thruout the winter.stay safe and have fun! :ylsuper:

As hot as it gets underhood, you should have boiling temperature washer fluid in no time.

The only problem I have had is the nozzles being frozen, but that was also when my car was covered with about six inches of snow that hadn't melted off. I knocked the snow off and went to clean my windows, which were quite filthy. Nothing came out. I tried again about 15 minutes later after I had been driving awhile. My fluid was fine and not frozen. It was just some ice or whatever froze the nozzle holes.

Well, I did an experiment and put the blue stuff in the freezer and left some outside and it hasn't frozen anywhere yet.... in the meantime I'm going to switch to a deicer type fluid and see if that helps any.

Wow, where in VA are you that it was -17??? It hasn't been lower than 20 degrees F here in Richmond this week, and that was like 3am!

And no, I haven't had a problem with my washer fluid or blades freezing up...hope those of you with this problem get it fixed.

I'm in Michigan, it's 18 degrees (f) here, and I have no problems with mine.

It must be the blend of your fluid.

possibly, its always been refilled by my local Mazda dealership when I go in for service.

I'll take a look at it. What type of fluid do you put in?

Just the garden variety blue stuff you see at gas stations or Auto Zone.

Wow funny how cars can be so differant. My rx8 is the 1st car I've owned where the washers haven't frozen overnight. I have to give up my garage spot to my wife as her Galant washers freeze as soon as the temp hits 30. :dunno:
