Window rolldown via remote?

Audis, BMWs, VWs have this feature... wondering if the RX-8 incorporated it or not. It's not a big deal either way, I'm just curious because I pick my car up today and I want to knowwww :)

Chuck Clifford 07-22-2003 12:57 PM

Sorry, no remote window roll down. But the window action is some of the fastest I have ever seen. Enjoy, you won't be disappointed. Just went over 500 miles at lunch today, total, not just at lunch today. Saving the long lunch trip for after breakin.

Wolfer 07-22-2003 01:02 PM

Nope,

Keys are oversized, remote truck, panic, lock, and unlock.

Remote looks cheapy made. With this high price car I would think the keys and remote would be a more higher quality.

RotorMotor 07-22-2003 01:24 PM

Am I mistaken in my impression that the car does not have a factory installed alarm? I'm getting an aftermarket alarm installed this weekend regardless, but I don't think it has one from the factory/dealership...

Boozehound 07-22-2003 02:07 PM

Everyone can thank visteon for the nice fobs... I wonder if Astons have these same remotes...

On my Millenia (and it's probably the case for the RX-8), if you press the lock button twice, the car will beep and that's verification on the car alarm being active.

Naaah -- my partner drives an Infiniti G35C, I drive (currently) a Nissan Frontier pickup...our remote keyfobs are identical (except his has a trunk release & mine doesn't).

Just checked my window sticker (the picture I took).

There's a factory alarm and engine immobilizer so no worries :0

RotorMotor 07-22-2003 02:29 PM

Yeah, Herc, if you push it twice the horn actually honks. It's annoying as all Hell because it's LOUD and I frequently don't get home until 1 or 2AM. My neighbors must love me. I called my dealer to ask whether a factory-installed alarm was included and she said that if it was, it would be on the window sticker (which it's not, at least not on mine...)

From www.mazdausa.com, under "Safety & Security Features", it lists:

ALARM & ENGINE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM

as a Standard Feature.

Does it have one touch up/down on the driver's side? On the passenger's side?

Thank you sir. I feel a better now, but that horn honk is still terrible. You'd think they could put a nicer sounding chirp in there instead....

Just on the driver's side.

JerryR 07-22-2003 03:06 PM

As RotorMotor said, just on the driver's side, but it's only one-touch down, not up.

I certainly hope to be correct in saying that there are no cars with one touch up windows. Too dangerous.

Ah, man JerryR, ya beat me!

Yes, you're mistaken. It covers the doors, hood and trunk, though you can open the trunk with the key or remote without disarming the alarm.

Wolfer 07-22-2003 03:45 PM

I need a new alarm window sticker. Mine seems to be falling off on the driver side. But the dealer etched my windows and got those stickers everywhere. grrrrr

I do like when you push the lock once it makes no noise but you have to look at the car to make sure the parking lights flashed. Or be like everyone else and push it again for that honk!

All BMW's for instance have one-touch up and down on all the windows and the sunroof.

Other cars have this feature too. However, on most cars it's just the driver and front passenger that get the one-touch switches.

The Lexus SC-430 also has auto-up and down on both windows.

As has been said, there are cars that come with it from the factory. And there are controllers that will turn the RX8 windows into one-touch both ways. They'll run $100 at the max for the controllers.

And there are ways to setup a factory keyfob setup so that you can control windows, but that takes a little bit of work. For example, you find the wire that goes from the box that receives signals from the keyfob to the trunk release. You cut that, and install a box with simple electronics that can decode how many time you press the trunk release button. Then set it up so that say, one-click equals trunk release, two-clicks equals windows up, three-clicks equals windows down, four-clicks equals sunroof open. Mind you, if you try to put ten items on that, it gets hard to remember how many clicks does what.

Oh K Well, I thought cars didn't have that for safety reasons. Did you see America's Funniest Home Videos where the husband got his head stuck in their brand new cars' driver-side window? The wife standing there not knowing what to do? Well, now I know how it happened.:p kinda...

Usually when vehicles have this feature, they also have a safety mechanism that causes the window to go back down if it encounters any resistance going up (such as fingers or that woman's husband's head). Same idea as garage door openers.

All Lexii (probably all luxury cars) have one-touch up/down on windows and sunroof. The expensive bit is the pinch protection to retract the window if it bumps against something - my dogs know this from experience if they didn't pull their heads in when I raised the back windows in my RX300 (tried it on my own arm first of course - doesn't hurt).

I did a google search for this a few weeks back but could not find anything. Who do you know of, as for me this will be $100 well spent.

I'm glad that you elaborated on the fact you tried it on your own arm first. Hate to have you catch a bunch of crap from all those SPCA fanatics. :D

Check with your favorite alarm dealer/installer in person or online. They're the companies that make items like that.

Also, check out www.autoloc.com. Remember, features and quality will vary.
