Window rattle driving me nuts

Hi all, I got 5000 miles on the 8. But the one thing spoiling my nirvana is a rattle in the door. Seems to only happen with the window fully up, sounds like a window rattle within its rails. Anyone else experienced this?

I'm worried to take it to the dealer and get some hamfisted tech to rip everything to shreds.

Otherwise the car is tight, though the brakes squeal in cold weather.

Thank God the sound system is loud enough! :ylsuper:

Rattles suck. Your dealer may help, but sometimes it's not a permanent fix. My rearview mirror wiggles and rattles at a certain position, I also occasionally get a rattle in one of the doors...

You know you're an rx8 owner when you don't care your breaks squeek.

Be prepared for rattling in both doors, rattles in the steering wheel as well as CEL's. Oh and squeaking breaks. :(

Rx8maniac 02-02-2006 02:40 PM

check to see if its the part above the door towards the windshield that says srs on it mine came loose and it sounded like the door had a rattle.

yellowRX 02-02-2006 03:42 PM

My Moon roof rattles. I had the dealer fix it twice, and it still rattles. :(

I have a rattle around where the driver door meets the dash. What I do is turn on the heater through the dash, and the rattle goes away. Works every time for me.

Now if there was something for the brake squeal...

Heh, I too have noise coming from somewhere on the driver side. It sounds like it is coming from right behind me to the left. It buzzes and rattles. My steering wheel where the air bag is kept also rattles. So does my rear view mirror and the passenger seat when no one is sitting down. So far, I found out how to fix the noise from the rear view mirror. You just have to move it a bit, however, I can't confirm exactly where the noise is coming from because my wife can't drive a stick for me to pin point the noise.

I may just go to the dealer and let them try to repair it but my research tells me that it may be a futile attempt.

Oh, I almost forgot about the break noise.....

Same thing

Yeah I have the rattle in the passenger door. Sounds like a metallic rattle. If I push on the door panel it will lessen.

I also had a rattle when the window was fully down and it ended up being the trim on the outside of the car at the bottom of the window and they had to replace it.

There is another one somewhere on the back seat also...maybe the speakers.

I would take mine in but fear, like last time the dealer will create more problems than I started with or won't put it back together like last time.

i'm not positive...yet. but i did take apart my driver side door panel to see if i could find the rattle. i thought that a couple of the cables were rattling against the door, so i put some foam tape between them...rattle still there. i've come to the conclusion that is is the window regulator itself. but i'm not 100% positive.

i have a rattle on the passenger side door. i found that to be the rubber seal that goes around the door.

the rattling has started to annoy me...but i just turn up the radio. oh well for now...

RotaryNoob 02-02-2006 10:37 PM

I had my driver door rattle fixed by the dealer. It is a common problem. Mention tightening the window regulator.

I have that same damn rattle in my driver door right behind me. If I stick my finger inbetween the left circular vent and the door, it stops but it hurts and I can't very well keep it there. I haven't tried wedging something there yet to see how that works yet. I also get rattles behind me and below me. Could be the seat and/or rear deck. Hard to tell when I'm driving. My moonroof rattles a little in the tilt position. A little disappointing, considering my '98 626 with 104K miles on it has less rattles and was built in Flat Rock, Michigan. Still love my Mazdas though. Good luck.

A bit off topic... But I really wonder why all these dealers (not only Mazda, but BMW, MB, Toyota etc. from my experience) are really giving their customers a hard time when they ask for some warranty works done? I'm sure they get paid by the manufacturers, but I've been hearing "you voided your warranty by adding this and that", "sorry we can't duplicate the problem" "oh it's normal".....

I think you need to lubricate the rails or something like that.

I think I read last year about styrofoam or something in the door which is suppose to reduce noise, and in the winter the cold weather made it stiff and that would make the parts around it rattle or something. Just take it to the dealer, they will give you a free rental car.

Thanks all for your tips, this is why I'm really liking this site!

This morning though was ok though, I couldn't hear the rattle over the squealing brakes!

loyed 02-03-2006 01:20 PM

There's a service bulletin about the airbag rattle:

Wondering if you fixed your rattle permanently and if I have the same rattle.

I have a rattle/squeeke that seems to come from a loose cover: the right, front pillar cover that has the SRS on it. I can kinda massage it, or press it in, and get it to stop squeeking, but it comes back after I go over a hard bump or two, especially on cold mornings. It's hard to diagnose from the drivers side while driving, and because it doesn't happen all the time, I haven't been able to get a friend to help. I can't tell if its the cover itself making the noise, or something loose behind it. It's definately plastic on plastic, and it's really annoying(nails on chalk board)

Anyone ever take this cover off? I was thinking of attempting to fix it myself. Otherwise I was gonna take it back to the dealer, but that'd be a pain 'cause I'd have to leave it.

gonnahanvan8 03-22-2006 02:13 PM

I found that the rattle behind me on the door was the upper trim just above the freestyle latch. One of the clips wasn't seated all the way.

Wurmfist 03-22-2006 02:20 PM

Seems like a common issue. I have the same problem with the rattling door and rear view mirror and squeaking breaks. I tend to just turn the radio up and ignore them. I like my radio loud anyway. But I think I will mention it to the dealer next time it's in the shop for scheduled Maintenance.

9291150 03-22-2006 02:49 PM

Mine went away on its own...yipee!!

turborotor 03-22-2006 06:40 PM

I have the same annoying rattle from the driver's door. I also get wind noise on the freeway. Any fixes??

spork 03-23-2006 10:44 AM

I have a driver's door rattle too. It bugs me.

I also had someone stick a business card in my driver's side window which fell into my door when I was trying to get it out. Stupid people.

Door rattle, maybe. Wind noise? I don't think so. Unless you have something sticking out that's causing the noise.

Jackallll 03-23-2006 01:41 PM

ditto here....i have the same rattle in the driver's door right behind my ear. it comes and goes...might be weather related. who knows. i also have the rear view mirror rattle from time to time. that i truly believe is bc of the cold. i just deal with it...i dont feel like wasting a day just to have a dealer tell me "it's normal". oh, and the brake squeal is ever-present....and i've already had the TSB done once.
