Why would you own a Rx8?

What made you decide on getting a Rx8? Instead of other sports cars like the 350z/370z, G35/37, S2000, Etc.
Obviously those cars are better performers+gas mileage but why the Rx8?

I just want to make a list of example and reason's why people would like to own a Rx8.
Can you guys list it in numerical order too.
Thanks.
I.E like handling? looks? unique?performance?
Ps. I do love the Rx8 compared to any other sports cars and plan on getting on in the next year or two. But I'd like to see why everyone would buy one.

****More specifically, Why would you own a Rx8 PERFORMANCE WISE compared to other cars in its range? When other cars has just as much power, handles as well and same price range.

Back in 2003 when I was in 7th grade the first time I saw the 8 was in my autoshop class in a magaizine And I instantly fell in love. Over the next 5 years doing research and looking at what else compared to it but I finally got my 8 in march of 08'.

I love my 8. :)

haha same here, [check my join date]
other reasons...

unique in styling and engine
pretty much an exotic [not as common as those other cars] [just the other day a minivan ran a red light staring at my car with his mouth open:rollingla]
4 seats [love the suicide doors, people dont expect it:p:
great handling [very important]
Higher Redline than any of the other cars mentioned.

I own 1 sadly because:

1. I used to think i'm good enough in cornering to compensate for the hp handicap
2. My friend got one, I took a ride and he asked to get one to "play" with him (but then he sold it after i got mine)
3. 4 seater
4. A 2nd hand S2000 cost the same as a new RX-8
5. A 350Z cost 8k more
6. I thought I could become a unique snowball if I had a rotary engined car
7. Closest thing to a S2000

Haha yeah my friends always trip out when I show em my car with my bright blue interior. And the girls love it! I like it cuz it's rare also.... And they asked me if it's a 2 door and I say it's a 4 door coupe sports car.

:)

1. The RX-8 has to be one of the best looking cars available (to this day after 7 yrs, people still stare and comment to me. and I still look back when I park it).

2. I can corner fast enough to hang with almost anything I run into on track in the corners (they may go faster, but they can't corner so much better even if they cost x2, x3, x4).

3. There are plenty of mods & gear available to make lots of fun projects

4. ..ha ha ha yha ha ...send me you 350zs, 370zs, your G35/37s. These cars all have issues bigger than the 8's on a track, which is why there aren't many of the out there, and if they came, well, I'm not worried ha ha yha ha yah ha - whicjh is another reason I still own the 8

5 Show me another Sports Car that can take its own equipment, including 4 track tires to the track all by itself...next.

6. Gas mileage... I get 22+ on the highway, any difference to ones mentioned is really of little significance in the grand scale of things.

We were looking to replace the wifes '99 Grand Am that we sold to pay for our honeymoon. Stumbled on the RX8 on new years day. Had a lot of good items to it, and we got it for different reasons.

HER reasoning:
1. 4-door Coupe
2. Small enough to park about anywhere (as compared to our '03 GMC Yukon)
3. It's sport enough for her, but not so much that it'll "get away from her" (like the GTO we test drove)
4. Stability control, not just traction control

HIS (my) reasoning.
1. It's WAY WAY nicer than the 2g RX7 I drove in college
2. It's a rotary, whats not to like about a 9k rpm redline?
3. I autocross, and this was the only car I thought I'd like to race, that she didn't object to driving daily.
4. I've wanted one since they were released, but never thought I'd get one due to cost.

Reasoning from BOTH of us
1. It was $5k less money than anything else we were looking at ($20k budget, bought it for $14.5k)
2. Our friends think we're rich for buying a sports car (jokes on them right?)
3. It's fun to drive!

My penis is not big enough for me to own a SmartCar,
nor is it small enough for me to own a Corvette.

RIWWP 05-23-2010 08:38 AM

Why this over other cars? It's really all here:
The Little Things...

I believe that this thread has sold more 8s than any 1 salesman.

Huey52 05-23-2010 08:44 AM

^ LOL ;)

1. Unique, in styling (what car is that? is a common inquiry), rarity (as in I rarely see another), and of course its Rotary engine (like a high revving turbine).
2. Handling (like a jet fighter you "strap it on" and feel one with the machine). The low center of gravity and 50/50 weight distribution afforded by the small (yet high thrust to weight) engine is sublime.
3. Although there's a lot to be said for a 2-seater, the practicality of 4, which are virtually hidden by the easy access suicide doors, is advantageous much of the time.
4. Very easy to work on. This machine quickly becomes a project car whether you ever intended that or not.

first time i saw an 8 was when i was about 13 years old, i was completely amazed at how the car stood out, ever since i fell in love with the rx8. i am now 18 years old, i have my own 09 rx8 which i am paying for myself, and im loving every minute of it.

Affordable exotic, unique sound, beautiful handling
Sports car for the family man, nice luxury touches
Lovable, addictive

After spending about 2 years looking for a replacement for a 928 the RX8 was the only car that came close and in fact exceeded many of the features of the 928. The one penalty was the lack of bottom end torque.

Over 100,000 miles it will burn about $3000 more fuel then most of the V6 counterparts. Over 5 years it will cost about $3000 less to insure then the 2 door V6 counterparts. Thats a fair trade off in terms of value.

The car is very well designed and constructed. Not free of rattles but very rigid chassis with perfect balance. Exceptional brakes and road feel.

By 150,000 miles most of the V6 counterparts will have needed valvetrain work usually at a cost beginning with a 2 and followed by at least 3 zeros. Renesis engine failures had been a concern however the Factory backed them to 100,000 miles and worked at correcting the issues. It appears that when given proper care these engines will last well beyond 150,000 miles with no internal work needed.

Thats my story.

My Reason:

When i walked into each dealership i saw at least 5 guys walking around n' checkin' out either a z, g35, evo and subi. When i saw the 8 i saw 10 girls walking around it, touching the curves...

...it was pretty much a no brainer on who's attention i wanted to get

:boink:

Rev up to 9000 rpms, Unique design, Amazing Sound, Good Handling, 4 Seats

RX8pwnage 05-23-2010 11:56 AM

Because the rubber-neck syndrome that this car causes is off the scale. Not only from the looks, but from the SOUND of that beautiful, vibrationless, "turbine" style scream coming from within. Add amazing handling, and you have a car that puts a smile on your face every single time you open the garage.

Wig92 05-23-2010 12:09 PM

good things: everything above^^:wiggle:
bad things: you will get addicted and be physically unable to leave it stock! too easy and too much fun to mod.

I'm 17 and have now spent every penny Ive earned the past 2 years on this car and dont regret it one minute! :ylsuper:

Lunacy 05-23-2010 12:28 PM

Very unique. Not many around my town.

ken-x8 05-23-2010 12:53 PM

I was just past 60 at the time, mortgage paid off, child grown up and on her own. Second childhood time...I needed a sports car. Z350 and S2000 seemed like way too much money for what they were. Didn't fit in a Miata. Z4 was also way too much and steered like mush. Wife opposed a rag-top on safety grounds.

Then I discovered the RX-8. Took a test drive, and wondered why I even bothered looking at the other cars. Drove like a Miata, only bigger. 9000 rpm. Some practical elements: decent sized trunk, plus the back seats.

It was destiny.

In 1989-90, I bought a used 1979 280zx (2 seater, not the ugly 2+2) and absolutely loved it.

Then I became dirt poor. (went to college and grad school)

In 2004, I had a decent job and wanted to get a 350z. I took it for a spin but was put off by the plastic interior and the sluggish transient response. A friend of mine suggested I test drive the RX8.

I took it around one corner and was sold.

Kaiser bun 05-23-2010 01:07 PM

There was a pontiact g5 gt that i desperately wanted to get at a dealership here, while looking at it i noticed an rx8 on the lot, and asked how much it cost (g5 was 22k), i was expecting to hear 20k for a 2004 rx8, he told me it was 11k..... i was like f this pontiac and searched and found my 06 for 14 400 as soon as i realized i could afford one.

chrismkay3 05-23-2010 08:49 PM

the interior, rwd, and lack of other decent vehicle options within the budget i set made up my mind on the rx8

JantzenRX-8 05-23-2010 09:15 PM

#1 - looks
#2 - handling
#3 - unique/rotary

When they were first released i was pretty much set on getting one and four years later nothing had changed my mind so i bought one.

all are used 05-23-2010 09:18 PM

I find it to be a great combination of form and function.
