why my car starting sound so loud?

It's when i starting up the car, especially when the car is cold, for that one second, I get really loud ignition sound, if I do it in a underground parking(not open environment) it is even louder.. (Sounds dry but in a healthy way) I thought it is common rx8 thing, but I just find out my local buddies don't have the same issue... not complaining, I like it, just want know why and what cause that to happen? (I haven't done any mod to the car yet)

Have a video of the sound? Would help us get an idea of what noise you are experiencing.

Sounds like a weak start to me.. What could be happening?...

paimon.soror 09-28-2014 06:29 PM

sounds like a weak starter compounded with the fact that you held the ignition down too long lol.

that and im thinking the starter is also failing to disengage the flywheel immediately and is getting spun fast. basically still just failing starter needing some attention...

Can you tell it is not spark plug or coil problems? I don't know the life time of a starter in a 8, but I think it has never been replaced ... Maybe it's time...

Get someone else to start your car and see if still does it. It really sounds like somebody is holding the ignition key down a little too long.

If it's not that, it's your starter solenoid. Doesn't seem to be a common mode of failure, but I guess you got lucky :) Either way, starter replacement should cure it.

Sounds like a starter issue to me.
