Why me..

So at work we was having this pot luck... I decided to make a chocolate peanut butter pie and a crock pot of chili.. Well lucky me even driving slow and being cautious the chili spilled all over my trunk... Now I am looking doing one of two things... Paying the dealer $570 to replace the entire trunk liner or finding a good detail and having me trunk steam cleaned and shampooed... Any thoughts???

I am sure the cleaning will not make it look brand new its a pretty nasty looking spill. I am also sure a good detail will cost me upwards of $100+, so should i try to get it detailed or just save the $100+ and just go for the brand new liner.... SAD DAY...

Dealer says the liner is $300 and the labor is approx $270 because they would have to remove the seats inside the car..

Find a part out thread here and buy a liner from someone who has crashed their car or something. Just be careful about the transaction and make sure they provide pictures and use paypal etc etc.

Enough people track their 8s competitively (and strip out the interior), you should be able to pick up a new trunk liner from someone in the For Sale section. Those usually get thrown out, so the price shouldn't be that bad.

^good advice x2

Also about the dealer charging you a ton of money for install, that's bullshit. I just went and looked and the whole liner looks like it just has a handful of push clips holding it in place and comes out in like 10 minutes.

Do you just need the floor part of the liner? I was planning on stripping my interior anyways so I'll sell it to you if you're interested.

buy liner from part out and install it yourself. It honestly cant take more than a half hour even if you have to take the rear seats out. Not sure if theres a DIY for it.

I havnt had a super good look at it yet. Its the area closest to the back of the car where it spilled.. Where my jack is mounted and some of the chili shit seeped down below that jack mount. I will try to take pics for you real quick.

OK, so here are the pictures of the spill they are on the driver side basically on the back side of the driver taillight... Its makes me VERY sad especially because its making my entire car smell like stinky feet...

At least it didn't happen during summer months or that shit would REALLY smell..

Take the liner out

Steam clean it

clean the metal & plastic parts with warm soap & water inside the trunk

re install the liner & febreeze it. let it dry & put Scotchgard on the entire trunk's carpeted area

PRESTO! Like- new trunk for $15-25 (depending on how much you spend on febreeze & scotchgard spray)

Is the liner hard to remove or reinstall is the main issue...

monchie 11-01-2011 11:02 PM

It doesn't look that bad. I'll say just have it detailed and save.

dmedz8 11-01-2011 11:25 PM

my trunk is stripped. pm me if you are interested in buying the liners from me.

MS Addict 11-01-2011 11:26 PM

Hell, try that, if it doesn't work, buy someone's off of here. I'm sure some people won't want too much for it.

And also, don't spill the beans next time. All jokes aside... Buy some better tupperware, haha.

what you driving with the container open?
are you trying the Initial D drift method not spilling water out of the cup?

SpillTheBeans 11-02-2011 12:42 AM

Yes except I was trying not to spill a shit ton of chili. Needless to say what bit of the chili was left my coworkers thoroughly enjoyed about half of it spilled in my trunk the other half they ate up like hot cakes..

maybe you can have them lick the trunk liner. you know, like cats lick their hair.

Good news is I found a guy willing to sell his for $100 and help install it. So things are looking up for my car at least!

Okay, I spilled oil and premix and everything in mine over the years. I took mine out very easily, took maybe ten minutes. I pressure washed it using clothes pins on my privacy fence. I also used degreaser for pressure washers, It came out clean. There is matting underneath that will probably get wet so it will take a while to get dry. I don't have my matting as the oil and stuff ate through the glue and made it all tacky. Gonna buy new matting to put under to help make it soft again, and so it can take some impact. You don't have to remove seats, just plastic rivets and the storage container that holds the jack.

i think we need pics of this mess
