Whining noise on idle...please help
Hey Guys I was at a drive through and noticed that my car makes a high pitched whining noise while I'm in neutral. If I give it gas the whining goes away. I'm thinking it might be a belt that needs to be lubed. Anyone else have this issue. I did a search but didn't come up with anything. Thanks in advance!

is it more a high pitched whistle/ hum or an actual "noise" that sounds like something is rubbing?
high pitched whining is signature of the renesis engine. all of our cars do that on idle. just search the forum for discussions and you'll see. |
well it's more like a squeeking noise...i know the rotary's have a different noise at idle, but this is a new noise.

Check belts with the car running and the hood open. Listen to see where the noise is coming from.

Does the noise go away when you press on the clutch? If it does, it is normal and most likely the tranny mainshaft rotating on ball? bearings. When the clutch is engaged (i.e., pedal out) the shaft rotates, and when the clutch is disengaged (pedal depressed) the shaft does not rotate. The noise might have been there all along but the sound reflection from the building wall may have made it more noticable.

I have that high pitched chirping noise from my car...it's actually very loud :banghead: and very unappealing. It hasn't always been there though...know of any fixes? |

It goes away when I even slightly depress the clutch...not even engaging it. |
It's probably just gear chatter then, and it's nothing to worry about.

search gear rollover.
