When Keyed, What to Do?

This is just for a worst-case scenario kind of question.

What should one do repair-wise after getting keyed?

Will rust be a problem?

Keying often doesn't go all the way through to bare metal. I'm not real familiar with Mazda's paint processes but in the cars I've owned, if the keying didn't go through to bare metal the car wouldn't rust. Then it just became a case of aesthetics and the cost to fix versus the likelihood of being keyed again soon.

What I'd recommend if it happens though, is have your dealer or a body shop you trust look at it and give you an honest opinion. Hope that helps.

ProtoConvert,

This already happened to a forum member, his name is "Rodstien" something, can't remember exactly. Ask him, or do a search about what he is doing about it.

Here is Rodsterin something :) I am going to use the touch up on the chiped out part. The scratch line was easily buffed out with rubbing comound.

New car paint tends to be thin. But, if you do not see metal, then it shouldn't rust. If you do, put a couple good layers of wax over it until you can get it painted. A good body shop should be able to sand the spot and repaint (and look like nothing happened). I hate to ask how big of an area it is, but if it's not that big, it would probably cost $300.

Like Rodsterin said, why not use the Mazda touch-up paint for it? It is like $3.00 for a bottle at Trussville.

I tried the touch up paint once. After a couple of washes, it came right off. Wax it heavy or repaint it.

Luckily I have an autobody shop in the family. :D
