Whats in the kit?

Im putting together my own tool kit for the back of my 8 as I think the Facom one is overpriced for what is in it! Thing is I really want to know what the blue thing is next to the pliers and allen keys.... Anyone know ?????? http://phwt.mazda.co.uk/mazda/viewImage.do?imageId=6BEDAED2E988468885F162A2D68F3 092&partName=Tool kit&partNumber=FE15-W3-550

The "pen" looking object on the far right? Looks like a tire pressure gauge, maybe.

Just put in ti what YOU think you'll need. Those prefab/overpriced ones are usually full of fluff that you'll never really use in a real emergency.

Maybe one of those retractable "claw" screw / tiny part holders?

It's a handle for sockets, but I don't see any sockets in the case. eek!

It looks like a pen to me, although you'd think it should be a tire pressure gage.

However...did anyone look up the price? 189.95 pounds, which I think translates into $350 to $400 USD. You can get a kit comparable to that for maybe $30 to $40 at Wal Mart. You could probably replicate everything in that box for less than $200 at Snap-On.

The kit is clearly for show, not for actual use. Why else would the batteries have their own parking spots, rather than live in the flashlight? Why crescent wrenches, when there is already a set of combination wrenches? And why else would it not include jumper cables and flares or reflectors, items which probably get used more than any other in-car emergency gear?

My opinion on tools: New car gets a tire pressure gage, and also a set of jumper cables so you can help others. If you want something more than just cables and tire gage for a new car, get a $30 road emergency kit at K-Mart or Wal-Mart - or the equivalent kind of store in your country.

As the car gets older, the cables will help you more often than others. You also add tools based on the ones you wished you had when something went wrong. Final stages of a car's life the only tool you carry is a screwdriver, to remove the plates.

I don't like the idea of the torch and batteries.

You can easily find wind-up torches these days which don't need batteries ...

Oh, and no kit is complete without a self adjusting pipe wrench ... they are just so handy for so many reasons ;-)

Definitely. Add a pair of vise-grips, a Swiss Army knife, and a ball peen hammer and you're set.
