i SAW that one! yea id love to know how it works ... i have a tv cable that needs soldering, sadly i already have your handy "conventional" soldering iron

yah that soldering iron is for real too, great for quick repairs, I'm trying to lay down some hints, and maybee I'll get one for christmas

I work in musical instrument repair and we have a tool just like that, but much larger. Basically it has 2 small (and very fragile) solid-carbon tips. When you touch the tips to the metal, it creates a circuit, and the high resistance from the carbon tips creates a lot of heat. Once the current is broken, the heat stops. It works really well, but be sure you get extra tips because I guarantee you will break a few.

I bought the showtime rotisserie and it works just like it says it does. But it is hard to clean.
