We have been getting a lot of repeating posts lately so people tend to get a little put off when the same question is asked over and over. Don't take it too personally.

I would look through all of the stickies you can find. They're at the top of each section and marked as such. Spend some time in these two threads as well.

Is your 192 a manual car? We only have the 192 (4 port here) as an automatic, but this forum may be of help.

Happy rotoring

Dude. Thanks. Posts like this make the forum better. +1 internets for you. I know repetitive questions are hard on the sanity, but even the search feature here tends to drag up threads that might answer the question eventually, but invariably have trolling statements not unlike this thread does.

From what I've read, its a diminishing return to mod the RX-8. Most aftermarket mods just make the car noisier and, eventually, throw codes. Mazda did their homework and made a well tuned machine that isn't going to go any faster with a couple of cheap bolt ons and backyard engineering.

It's surprising, I know. :lol2:

Not going to stop me from turboing the car when I clear the project list though. The Esmeril kit looks nice. But for the most part, I'm still looking for reliability numbers personally first-- Stupid reliability crushing power numbers later. :evil_laug

This is true, but it hasn't stopped me from any mods, or planning future mods. Although there might not be a lot of bolt on power adders, there are other mods that are very worthwhile. The most rewarding is the driver mod of course. That's probably where i'll be spending all of my mod money for a while.

ShinkaEvo 08-06-2010 12:58 PM

I have a 05 4port shinka, and planning to go with Pettite in the future like Phil's8.

Honestly, there is always faster and better cars out there.
Not mentioning how personal skill effect car performance, can't remember how many times seeing (rich) people trashing cars out there.

At the end it really comes down to, how do you enjoy your ride and what you wanna do with it. As long as it feels right and satisfy there it nothing wrong with it, no matter how you wanna mod it. (as long as you got the budget)

Cheers,

Cobb AccessPORT with MM tunes(no longer available)
BHR ignition coils
Mid-pipe/High-flow cat

Only NA mods that make a real difference. Now with the AccessPORT small mods like an intake, cat-back, etc will go farther and actually make a difference. Otherwise don't expect them to net you anything above 5 bhp a pop. Keep in mind its a 1.3L engine. The same size engine that go into some motorcycles. While 5 bhp may make a difference when the bike only weighs 600 lbs, 5 bhp in a 3,000 lb car means nothing. The RX8 wasn't meant for drag racing. Get a short-throw shifter, better brakes, tires, and a dual plate clutch and try out auto-crossing. Coming onto this forum and asking how you can get the most power out of your RX8 is like an SRT8 Challenger owner asking about suspension mods. You can dump your whole paycheck in, it won't get you that far.

mulletsquirrel 08-06-2010 10:59 PM

You should have gotten the TT if you wanted to go faster :P But once you go to the RX-8, good luck going back to a sloppy handler.

I would have gotten a TT if i would have fit in it :S ( 6'6" tall )

If you don't go that route, then the most you can expect is about 200 whp without a customer engine rebuild. Spend $30k+ like race teams do, and you can get to about 220whp.

Although I understand the frustration with repeated questions, you can answer his question more straightforward, without sounding like a cock. If the BHP is 232, and full exhaust and intake are done, you would probably be pretty close to 250 BHP. Exact or over probably not, and your probably are going to hate the exhaust note. Also, most race teams that i have seen use 3 rotor engines, and make way more than 220whp, and I have seen 4 rotor projects done for around 30k, so im not sure what 30,000 dollar 220 hp engines you speak of.

Troll is a label that is thrown around too easily and recklessly. A person could be dumb rather than a troll. Or he could be a pissed off asshole pissed off at assholes rather than a troll.

There is no guarantee you will finish "university" regardless.

Aseras 08-09-2010 12:42 PM

if you dynoed it on a really cold perfect day you might crack 200hp.

Renesis07 08-13-2010 05:01 PM

To answer questions through the fluff

Midpipe $150-$250 (used)
Accessport (find one used, someone sold one today for $500)

for under $1000, this will yield you an 8-15 whp gain if you're lucky. I recommend focusing on modding for reliability (mods that make your engine run efficiently and COOLER), sound (what you want your car to sound like), and for your driving style.

Modding with no purpose is like the people who buy an xbox with no TV. It's a waste of money and becomes an eyepiece that doesnt work the way you wanted it to.

Drive your car, find areas you want to improve, form a budget, make a checklist, and start going through it.

Im about to cross my 5 year anniversary with my car, and Im not even an 1/8 of the way down my list, these cars are pricey and tempermental.

I detailed it out because just tossing numbers around doesn't mean anything. And the crank HP is so debated, even within Mazda (228, 229, 232, 235, 238, 240, 242, and 250 have all been used for the same stock OEM engine), that we don't use crank around here, only whp, since we KNOW that number. I was shifting his thinking off of BHP for a reason.

I also wasn't making a single reference to any race team using any engine OTHER than the Renesis. Why would I? Speedsource used Renesis engines in their ST class RX-8s in Grand-Am (they moved to Speed3s this year). They only use 3 rotor in the GT class, but that obviously isn't a Renesis. That's just Grand-Am even.

The World Challenge series has 4 RX-8s, one being #32 XOWii Racing (the driver is a member here), the other three being the #20 Maxwell, the #21 DC Racing, and the #08 Frank's International. One of those 4 is who posted the highest whp yet of 222whp+, and that is where the $30,000 reference came from, because that is how much their ECU alone costs.

Austrailia has a road rally series with a turbo charged 8 in it, and there are others around the world.

My point was simply showing the difficulty in getting additional power, especially outside FI. If those race teams with funded R+D can't get much past 220, our realistic street limit is lower than that (unless we go FI of course, they can't due to class rules). We like to avoid people setting their hopes too high, it usually results in a molested or destroyed 8.

in US all manuals are 232 bhp version.

In the us the 4 ports were 197hp
2004-2008 the MT rx8 had 238hp
2009-2011 the MT rx8 had 232hp
2006-2011 the AT rx8 had 212hp
2004 and 2005 we're the only years in the us that had the 4 ports.

The early numbers were inflated anyway.

It's more like 232 BHP for all 6-port MT.
