Whats the best oil for the 8??
 

im about ready to change my oil and i was wondering what everyone is using for there oil and filter please let me know.

can u put full synthic oil in the 8's i hurd you couldnt use it from someone?

^many have debated and no one has won.....many choose too, many dont, as for now its only personal preference

i havent gone fully syn but have done partial, but decided to go conventional, im using castrol gtx and its only 11bucks for the 5 qrt bottle at walmart

Serriously,....a lot of input on this subject which will leave you more confused than ever. FWIW I am about to use 5w-30 Royal Purple synthetic. The weight being more important to me. As other markets where the RX8 is sold are instructed to use 5w-30 and not our North American recommendation of 5w-20. As far as synthetic versus conventional either will work according to most people. Just change it more often than what the manual calls for. 3K or so, since our engines use some oil for apex seal lube and fuel dilution problems.

Oh, and with a standard oil change 2 or 3 (forget what amount) quarts of oil are stuck in the oil coolers and thus we have an incomplete oil change

Mazda cites no long term data on synthetics in rotaries as the reason they don't recommend a synthetic.

If I recall correctly, the Owner's Manual doesn't say not to use fully synthetic... it just says Mazda hasn't done extended testing with synthetic oil. It does, however, recommend an oil weight.

They did said something like that in more recent years of the user's manual.

but I dont give a crap, they said they recommend Mazda dealership for servicing your car cuz they know best about Mazda's car ... do you believe that ?

I've had some excellent results using Astroglide, but the smell sticks to your engine bay like you wouldn't believe.

5w-30 of your choice is the popular logic. no fram filters.

lol, hence why I said read the owners manual. 5w20 non synthetic. Every dealer Ive been too said my warranty would instantly be voided if I used synthetic. Why reinvent the wheel, just follow the damn owners manual. Or use 5w30 like they do in europe, but I wont even go that far. I use 5w20 non synthetic and Im running healthy at 67K, if others cars like synthetic, then good for them. Im not criticizing just saying what I do and how it has worked THUS FAR.

my dealership just filled my car (and they overfilled it with 5 quarts ... I'll bitch at them later this week) with 5w30. Its shown on the receipt.

later if anybody bitch about the oil weight I use. I will just shovel that receipt up their ass.

My car works. 42K miles now.

5w-30 since 5K miles. at 39K miles I start using 0w30.

will switch to 5/10w40 on my next change. which is due as soon as my new overflow bottle is here (cuz fuxking dealership overfilled my oil .... its everywhere now)

i just use Chevron SAE 5w-20. I didnt see any royal purple at kragen...that or i was blind.

ive done 10k on royal purple 5w30 full synthetic and zero problems.

My dealer uses Castrol GTX 5w20 and an OEM filter. Same as I'd use if I was changing it myself.

Mazda dealer, so who would know better?

FWIW, Valvoline told me that all 5w20 oils contain synthetic stock, so if you're worried about 20 being thin but believe that synthetic provides superior protection it all works out.

all 5w20 does contain some sort of Synthetic stock, cuz thats the only way to get that weight.

dino juice is just not as good as the *man-made* stuff (synthetic), so mixing it with synthetic basically just "watered down" the effect of pure synthetic. the only good thing about it is that, well, its much cheaper.

but no matter what, 5w20 is just too thin, at least for certain parts of the engine.

30 is something that people should use ...

Mazda dealer knows best ... yep ... thats probably why they overfilled my car just 3-4 days ago ...

They always overfill mine, too, but never enough to cause problems.

I have never had anyone but me fill oil exactly to the line. Everyone else that I've ever paid for an oil change has gone over.
