What was your previous car?

I'm considering an RX8, and I'm curious what cars you guys had before you got your RX8? Anyone have regrets?

I currently have a Mustang GT (putting on flame suit). I've discovered that I am done with muscle cars and I want something that is more agile and precise. To date, my most favorite car I've owned was a 1998 Camaro SS (325 hp to the wheels with bolt ons).

Anyways, just curious what people were driving before their RX8 and if they have any regrets.

Welcome. Huge previous car thread here:

But anyways, if you want something more precise and agile, the 8's right up your alley. You'll feel a huge difference in handling coming from a Mustang GT or Camaro but make sure the difference in torque won't bother you too much. I suggest a test drive.

torque is my only concern... I'm trying to go test drive one at the end of this week or early next week. I really want a car to take to track days and work on my driving skills. The RX8 seems much better suited to that purpose than the Mustang.

However, I will say that with some suspension modifications, that SS hugged the road pretty well. However, it was still a heavy car. I'm looking forward to a car that weighs around 3000 lbs.

And sorry for not finding that other thread. Thanks for the heads up.

Torque is nice, but it isn't directly related to "fun". You'll see what I mean after a test drive.

I just took an "Advanced Driving Course" with the BMW CCA....lot's of nice beemers with a lot of torque to spare over there....but guess who was doing the most power slides and getting better times at the cone course?

This car lacks torque compared to other sports cars....but it makes up so much in handling.... :)

I'm dying to get over to the dealership to do a test drive. Hopefully in the next couple of days...

Would you guys hold out for an 09, or take a good deal on an 08? I like the styling of the 08 better (at least as of today...)

2002 Audi A6 4.2L. Very fast and torquey but very very unreliable and costly to fix. So its now sitting on some auto auction now and I'm zoom zooming around in my new 8 :)

Audi A4...love them both equally:)

you will be able to get a pretty good deal on an 08, 09's are fugly IMO....also too, you can find a used RX8 for cheap nowadays...just check out the for sale adds in this forum. thought I saw an 05 MT with 30K miles for like 12 grand.

The test drive of a new 8 at a dealership sold me. Then went searching for a used RX-8. Previous car was my ancient 20yr old Honda Prelude that I bought new. I loved that car, but its time was past. LOVE my new RX-8!

Used to drive a 93 BMW 325is, was a family vehicle, but I was even autocrossing it so it was mine-ish. Only thing I miss from it was the sound, though it was a good car to learn to drive with, good driving feel. The RX-8's stock exhaust needs to be more beastly! The whistling is unique though. That is all :)

mazda mx3

fish1 06-21-2008 12:59 AM

mazda mx-6, loved that car! didn't want to get rid of it....but it was starting to rust so it was past it's time. Test drove maybe six RX8's and after 30 seconds in my new 8 I didn't miss my old car one bit.
Hard to beat having a grin on your face every time you step out of your car.
