What is your favorite stupid comment or question about your RX-8?

I think my favorite is the ever-popular, "So how many cylindars" or a variation - "what's it got? A 6, an 8?"

My favorite answer ... "It's got a V-0, no cylinders."

And then I let that hang there.

One guy got into an arugument with me about it - insisting that there were no cars that had the rotary "Wankel" engine any more (he said "that died out in the 70's! Mazda gave up on it!") and continue to argue with me until I pulled my window sticker out of the glove box and handed it to him. "1.3 Liter Renesis Rotary Engine"

I love the sound it makes - that makes people ask questions too ... "That is the strangest sounding engine" ... :)

NavyDood 08-23-2004 02:47 PM

I get the same thing as you except I get the, "Is it a 4 or 6 cyl".

dirtylittlepaws 08-23-2004 02:48 PM

I had some guy the other day ask me if it was a Viper.

RevTo9K 08-23-2004 02:51 PM

Him: "Is that car fast?"

Me: "It's not bad."

Here's the #1 stupid question I get..... "So how often does your husband/boyfriend let you drive this?"

I am now getting irritated and have thoughts on getting a license plate frame that says "Single and this beauty is MINE!''

lol ladies with fun cars like this are just so few and far between!

ZoomZoomH 08-23-2004 02:58 PM

and yes i know that blank stare when i answer "there are no cylinders, it's a rotary engine" to the "how many cylinders" question, lol

and then i proceed to attempt to describe how it works, and usually they lose interest in about 2 minutes and change subject, lol

I've gotten that too. So annoying, makes me want to drop kick 'em ;)

I've also had the "What do you mean it has no cylinders?" and have had them look at me like I was a stupid girl who didn't understand the question.

Selesti 08-23-2004 03:16 PM

Psh ... us girls can appreciate a good car just as well as the next guy.

Although a lot of people tell me that I shouldn't want to drive a race car because it's too "manly" can you believe it? "Why don't you be a normal girl and go drive a corolla?" O.O

I guess it doesn't help that I took kung fu and judo instead of ballet and calligraphy. :P

I would think that most ppl just wanna know how much it costs.

Tigerfootball 08-23-2004 03:17 PM

"How many cylinders does it have"

"I bet that thing is FAST"

and from a dude at a fast food drive thru window
"That car sounds like one of them video games"

brothervoodoo 08-23-2004 03:21 PM

Common Joe: "So how many cylinders does it have?"
Me: "It's a rotary"
Common Joe: "Cool, so is that a V-8"
Me: "Nope, it's a rotary"
Common Joe: BLANK STARE...

ZoomZoomH 08-23-2004 03:29 PM

somebody should record that universal 'blanck stare' and put it up as an avatar, lol

Coop '04 08-23-2004 03:31 PM

Different car but it applies. I also have a 1972 MGB (kinda like an old Miata) anyhow, I have Personalized Classic plates that say 72 MGB, I can't tell you how many people go: is that an MG? or is that REALLY a '72. Kinda irritated me at first now I just laugh to myself every time it happens.

RCMarquis 08-23-2004 03:36 PM

Personally, I don't think it gets much better than a beatiful woman in a beautiful car.

.... that she owns and pays for!

Redlinin 8 08-23-2004 04:08 PM

Whats a rotary? has to be the dumbest.

Johnnyma45 08-23-2004 04:32 PM

At the dream cruise this weekend:

Dummy: "Hey man, how do you like that Mazda6?"
Me: "Yea buddy...it's great..."

mysql101 08-23-2004 04:36 PM

That have a v8?

No.

My buddy just bought one with the v8. It's fast!

......

Looking at the rear of the car, "What kind of car is that?"

......

Wow, your car rules! You street race it?

.......

Is that car fast?

.......

Is that a ferrari?

.......

Why would you buy that cheap ugly thing?

Uh.... cheap... ugly?

Yeah, why would you spend 9 grand on an RX-8?

..... it was over 30k.

Oh. Well you got ripped off. I wouldn't pay more than 5k for that.

310Guy 08-23-2004 04:37 PM

I get:

What's inside? A v6 or v8?

OR

Is that the Honda S2000?

The Scaglietti does look slightly similar... But they're not exactly to be mistaken for each other...

RX-Dreamer 08-23-2004 04:50 PM

And... I'm sure there's tons of $250,000 cars rolling around Tampa... lmao... :o

stanfordcole 08-23-2004 04:56 PM

I used to love when people asked how much it costs. They usually guessed in the $40k range. I always have to explain that I could not be driving it if it cost that much. Oh and the V-6 or V-8 question. Gotta love that one.

TownDrunk 08-23-2004 05:06 PM

Yeah, I'm sure I've heard it all too... The 4, 6, or 8, then explain it's a rotary, and they still ask how many cyls... Or, they'll ask if it's fast... They'll ask if it's a turbo... Someone asked me if it was a Z4 (WTF??)...

One of my favorites, however, is "Why'd you buy a yellow "car?" My answer, "Uh, because I didn't want to be boring like you."

Bankotsu 08-23-2004 05:08 PM

I just get "How fast is it?" I just tell them its fast enough for me.

rotaryDemon 08-23-2004 05:24 PM

washing the trunk area and some dumbski asks "is this the new RX8?"
