What would it take to sell your 8?

Imagine you are leaving a store and walking through the parking lot up to your RX8 and someone was standing there waiting for you and asked 'I will not let you leave with this car. I want it. What's it going to take no questions asked?' What would you ask for and why? Just straight up cash or some kind of trade or service? Please don't think too long, imagine you were put on the spot and had to answer right then, and all they know is what they see about the car and arn't interested in knowing anymore. Also, please don't say 'im never selling my 8, or its not for sale' thats not the point of this thread, its hypothetical, have fun :P

I would ask for $15k. Yea my car is two diff colors, has almost 124k on it, and the synchros and clutch got f'd up when my clutch pedal broke recently (lawyers are gettin involved..). But thats how much cash it would take to comfortably give up my baby and move on (i'd buy another one of course but thats besides the point). I have a history with my girl like no other before her and its been great, i'd need the compensation for that :P also not sayin it would be an easy decision even with that amount.

tcole6 03-30-2012 10:25 PM

I wouldn't take less than $20k. That would buy me the FD I have my eyes on.

Corso 03-30-2012 10:59 PM

If I could cover what I paid for it a month ago (car, compression test, reg., tax, emissions) plus a grand, I'd sell it. That would equate to roughly $18,000.

Anyone want to buy a mint low-mileage RX8? :)

nycgps 03-30-2012 11:52 PM

buy me another new Rx-8, I will sell mine right away.

comebackqid 03-30-2012 11:57 PM

A new 8, or a new 7 would do it for me, or a stock very clean FD would be cool too.

blackbirdrx8 03-31-2012 12:45 AM

It would take a lot. I love my car. id take maybe double what i paid for it..

kustus 03-31-2012 01:10 AM

The 787B :)

Wingznut 03-31-2012 02:07 AM

Probably $25k. I'm thinking enough to buy another '05 Shinka (or perhaps a 40th AE), in just as good condition with less miles... Plus a couple grand for my troubles.

I wouldn't sell my RX-8 unless there was a new RX-8 (or RX-9 or whatever it would be called is available), short of truly crazy money. Like, literally $50,000.

Of course, it isn't worth anywhere near that (2007 Grand Touring, mint, 15k miles). But, it's the last of its kind. It's almost certain that, despite how much we all love the rotary, it won't be back again. The emissions are too dirty, and the engine too thirsty to meet future regulations, and the torque too low to appeal to all but the most hard-core enthusiasts. The wankel was always a unique proposition, which was possible in good economic times and looser regulations, but almost certainly not in the future.

I love my RX-8. I truly love it. I love driving it. It puts a huge grin on my face every time I drive it. The thrill has not at all worn off after 4 years (plus 2 years for my previous 2004 RX-8 before this one). If I sell it, it would be very unlikely that I could find another one like it again (with such low mileage and the specific color combination I searched for about a year). Once it would be gone, it's likely gone for good, never to be replaced by one as nice as I have now.

So, for me personally, it would take truly crazy money to pry it out of my hands.

This guy in houston is trying to sell his! i was browsing craigslist today and found this gem. We need to find this guy and ask him how many turbo's we need to get 28mpg. He obviously has top secret information lol

dmedz8 04-01-2012 02:02 AM

I would say $150k. Why so much? Because Blue Thunder means that much to me. I figure $150k would get me a nice turbo 8 (same color of course) and a Trust GTR. (1200 awhp, 1,011 awtq) Now... Who want's to buy my rx8? :D:

godesshunter 04-01-2012 06:34 AM

I would trade for a winning mega millions lottery ticket.

SPHINX144 04-01-2012 01:41 PM

having enough money to go buy a e92 M3.

LifeAfterRx8 04-01-2012 01:50 PM

I probably wouldn't ever sell mine again... after all the trouble of finding the exact 8 I've been looking for since the beginning.

Chad D. 04-01-2012 01:56 PM

I'd sell it after getting the new 3rd design Ford GT.

Gingernator 04-01-2012 02:35 PM

I'd sell my baby for no less than $30K. She's kelly blue booked at like $12K retail, but everything we've been through is worth the extra cash. She is so much fun to drive, so sexy, such a head turner. That feeling of cruising down the road on a nice day with the windows down, sunroof open, and the music going (either the BOSE or the engine, depending upon which is playing), that is true motoring, THAT, is why the RX-8 is worth $30,000 even after 8 years of being driven.
And with some of the money I'd get I'd buy another RX-8, same everything, I'd wait for it; and I'd also buy a 2009 Honda CBR600RR which I've had my eye on for a while. Two wheels good!

No low-end torque? All the more reason to rev that beautiful engine!
Bad gas mileage and lots of emissions? Builds character.
It's ugly? You're ugly!
Stop and go traffic sucks and tires your left leg out? I have a stronger left leg than you and I'll trade stop and go for that feeling when you nail a perfect heel-toe shift.
Keep adding to the list!!!

Rough riding? I'll take the few extra bumps for 70mph round a 15mph exit ramp :)
High maintenence? Builds more of a bond with my car than yours, i ain't afraid to wrench!
I'll lose every stop light race? You'll lose every backroad race
Keep the list going!!
