What would cause chrome to flake at the OMP outlets?

I was doing some cursory searching on parts and found this ebay listing. There's chrome flaking right at the OMP outlet, the last place I thought it would be.
How did that happen? Did they hook up the OMP to something that pumped something besides oil? Maybe the oil injector was clogged?
Is it common? I'm stuck in old-school rotary world and am not very well versed on the Renesis.

Maybe they tried to use some oil additive like stop leak or something? Got a lot of coolant in the oil, and the OMP fed coolant?

it has nothing to do with oiling is why.

and those being absolute junk regardless, it doesn’t even matter.

No.2 is the predominant reason, in my view. However, if the housing is kept cool generally, this won't happen. So, both 2 and 3 are reasons.

1.Chatter of the apex seal, which in all the housings I have seen, is greater on the cold intake side.
2. The oil hole is a stress riser for the chrome coating, so is the edge of the housing.
3. Temperature.
4. Neglect. Based on the coolant passage appearance, the cooling system was neglected. Looks like Water Wetter might have been used also.

The RX8 coating gets a bad rap for being thinner and more prone to flaking. That's true, but can be mitigated almost completely in my opinion with good engine temperature management. Something these cars lacked as delivered from the factory.

People focus on the coolant seal failure temp as the upper limit for engine operation. That is not wise in my opinion. There is a lot of other damage being done when running 30-40 degrees above design temperature. The metal never forgets.

I've like to hear more about the "water wetter" issues in our motors..

If you search this forum and others, you can see much info on the black deposits that Water Wetter leaves all over the cooling system. Redline makes great products, WW is not one of them.

funny, I was researching something else and came across this phrase

悪魔の爪痕 (akuma no tsumeato)

which the Mazda engineers coined the apex seal chatter marks as they were fighting that issue prior to Mazda releasing the rotary powered Cosmo in the mid-1960’s

“the devil’s fingernail marks/scratches”

which maybe came about from the 1958 Japanese movie, The Devil’s Claws” 🤔

That movie looks very epic.

Post WW2 Japanese history is interesting. Amazing comeback to first-world status, in less than 20 years. Now that I said that, Japanese history is interesting, period.

Singapore is also an awesome story of revival and fast development from mid-sixties to the 90s. Inspiring, if anyone wants to check it out.

IIRC that's due in no small part to US' investment into rebuilding Japan's annihilated infrastructure post WWII.
Singapore very quickly aligned itself to US once it separated from Malaya and finds itself surrounded by non-aligned value system countries.
That said, much credit to its people resiliency and mindset to improve their respective nations.

Both nations offer significant strategic value to US in the Pacific region.
