HELP: What TIRES Should i Choose
 

HI EVERYBODY,
i bought my RX-8 just one year ago, and i already did 20Thousand miles, so mi tires are basically slicks, and winter is coming up... any particular suggestion about particular brands or models?
Since i do a lot a miles every month, i would like something that can last a little longer...

I live in New England and I drive on Toyo Proxes 4's

Very good on dry and wet,, and they are ok in the snow..

I have 43,000 miles on them now and they are still pretty quiet. But won't last another winter.

I checked the prices on them and they are cheaper now then when I baught them 2 years ago..

I second the Proxes 4's, good price, good grip, stiffer sidewalls than other comparable tires, and they will last pretty well.

OK Guy's, i just talked to a tire dealer, and he is sugguesting me some Cooper tires, model Zeon ZPT, o 2xs... anybody knows anything about them?
I was also looking in the michelin web site for the Exalto... well, any suggestion about other brands are always well accepted.

Deal with tiresdirect or tirerack, don't bother with the local guys. They usually sell subpar tires to you for much more money.

If you are looking for performance, forget those tires. Get a set of Bridgestone Potenza S-03 or the Goodyear GS-D3

ok, thank'you for your suggestion, but if a have to suggest a tire just to avoid are just the Bridgestone: when i was still in Italy, other then having a complete set that went bad in a couple of months, after screaming for at list a discount on a new set, i ended up to crashing my car on a tree because one of the Bridgestone tires decided to blow up in the middle of a fast curve... not only that, but when i bought my new Ducati Monster, i had a set of Bridgestone and that was tle worse bike tire i nevere ever had... so, i'm sorry, but NO, absolutelly NO Bridgestone, also: Beware Bridgestone they could destroy your car

I went with Bridgestone Blizzaks for the winter months.

Tire failures on higher quality tires usually don't happen. I used to work a tire store, tire failures usually occur on lower end tires. I am not a fan of the Bridgestone that came on my car, but the S-03 I had on the Miata were one of my favorite tires in terms of everyday driving.

my next tires would be falken 452 or 615

Goodyear Fortera tripletreads... if you can find them. For pure winter driving, Bridgestone Blizzaks are gonna be the best you can get at just about any local tire shop. You can order better, but it'll cost ya. My store has had alot of warranty replacements on Potenza's in the last year, and we stopped selling them about a month ago.

KUMHO Ecsta SPT

what do you guys think about this tire?
I went to another tire place, somebody that i know, and the told me that they are very good, ecspetially for the price that they cost, and they are rated for 30thousand miles... did anybody tried this brand before?

Fairly competent tire. Much longer tread life than stock OEM choices, and obviously much better than S03s or that sort of tire. However, you sacrifice ultimate grip at the track and some wet performance, compared to a specialty tire.

I have Toyo Proxes 4, I like them wet and dry. Drove once on snow just for the experience, they were stable but I have a Volvo FWD that I use in snow and the 8 comes far short in the snow. If I had to use the 8 in the snow I would get a more narrow tire. Wide tires stay on top of the snow which results in less traction.

I have a set of SPT's (235/40-18), it did pretty good on our mini autocross yesterday. sidewall flex was very minimal and overall grip was outstanding...

I put 245/35/18s ECSTA SPTs on 18 x 8.5 aftermarket wheels. I'm VERY satisfied with these tires so far (had them for about 3000 miles). I swapped out the OEM Potenzas at about 29000 miles (yeah they were slicks). First thing i noticed with the SPT's were silence. I never realized how much the Potenzas howled. Second, the turn in with the SPT wasnt as stiff (probably because of a softer sidewall). However, after about 300 miles, the tires settled in nicely and I'd say they have about 95% of the handling performance as the OEM Potenzas. Wet performance is FAR superior to the potenzas. Just hope they will be able to get me from point A to B in the snow....we'll see..

What part of last longer and winter is coming do you not get?

Why the hell are people using summer tires in snow on a RWD car? Unless you have a deathwish or don't like your car much you're just asking for trouble. Goodluck not wrecking your car...

I had no problem using them in the winter, got 20K out of it, thank you very much. Yes, first hand experience, not magazine testing. If you are looking for winter tires, Blizzaks are great.

Wait... where do you live?

I have the Zeon 2XS...they were pretty cheap and they are extremely reliable. I have had then for about 9k miles on them and i beat the piss out of them constantly and they still have tons of grip :D They grip pretty well, very well on the turns, and they do much better than I thought they would in the rain. I have yet to try them on snow
