What is the RX-8 "A Spec"?
Hello Everyone,
Last night I downloaded a video from racingflix.com. It was a "bestmotoring" video that showed the following cars racing each other on a track: RX-8 A spec, S2000, Integra-R, Alfo 147 and Golf R32. I was wondering what are the differences between the "A spec" and the RX-8 that is sold in the USA. Thanks |
I could be wrong but I believe the A Spec has a different set of specs.

It's the Mazda speed version of the RX-8.
same power plant, different ground effects, sway bars, springs, etc. Less of a soft ride, more of a race car setup. It's also about 10 grand more expensive. |
You can find the full details on the Mazdaspeed A-spec RX-8 here:
http://www.mazda.co.jp/customize/rx-8msv/ The price is 3,780,000 Yen, which is about $33K US. It is 1,000,000 Yen more than the JDM Type-S (similar to our US sport package), but only a couple of $K's more than a US GT package. Not as expensive as some might think. |
At $33K, I'd be interested in comparing it to the version I'm intersted in buying...with options the car I want prices out at about $35K (MSRP).

Yeah, but the current version is only for sale in Japan (as a complete car). And nobody knows when and what will be in the US spec version, nor the US price. Our MS version will be likely forced induction with a supercharger (or maybe a turbo), hence the delay.

I thought A-Spec was just for ACURA... guess i was wrong?
|
Yeah, it's the Mazdaspeed version. I saw the video a couple of months back. The RX-8 won followed by the S2000. Not a bad video.

Theremust be something else different b/c in the other videothat is very similar to this except w/a stock red Rx8 it came in almost last.
